Just look at COVID, people were dropping all over the place and there were people freaking out because they had to wear a mask OH MY GOD.
This looks great for ITB musicians, I’m a recent switcher (W10>LMDE7), does anyone have any resources for more standalone programs? MIDI sequencers, librarians… in particular I’m looking to replace a program called MIDI-OX from Windows, or even just a simple program to send a sysex file to an external MIDI device. I’ve found a lot of different programs to manipulate MIDI data streams, but not a currently supported one to send sysex.

Games and gaming have fully become like Hollywood and Silicon Valley and I expect zero good things from them at this point. As with movies and music, now most of the good stuff will be from individuals and smaller enterprises. The fact is today’s GPUs have enough power to do extraordinary things. The hardware these days moves so fast, no one is squeezing any performance out of anything like they used to have to do. And not every game needs photo realistic ray traced graphics, so these GPUs will be fine for many gamers so long as they remain supported through drivers.

That makes a lot of sense and I didn’t mean to offend anyone, I just know that a lot of people would love socialist policies but that symbolism is linked to something else entirely, I know it’s stupid, it’s not me personally, and it was just a thought to try to further expand socialism’s reach by bringing it into the 21st century. Yeah I gotcha, I suppose there’s two types of people in those situations: those who will put down the games and see them as a distraction or waste of time in the face of all the other things they have to do and all the serious/bad things going on in the world, or those who dive full on in and escape the world through gaming. Another perspective, games used to be light and fun, hella challenging, but still fun, you could pick them up and put them down. Nowadays if you stop playing a game for a week or two you almost have to start over, at least that’s how it is for me with my sieve brain. I’m also in the US.
I’d definitely agree with that, I was a much bigger gamer when I was a kid/teen/YA, the only real franchises were Pac Man, Mario and Donkey Kong, so the field was wide open with all sorts of new and innovative games, the sorts of games that are still coming out but just harder to find. I feel like there’s a lot of people just looking a the AAA titles being announced in the presses and then just being underwhelmed when there’s a lot more going on, but as you said there’s a lot more to life as an adult so that can be too much time. On the upside, a lot of those indie games are much shorter so you can find time to play them.
There is just so much choice it’s insane, every day there’s dozens of new games out. There’s some real gems in the indie game space, I feel like gaming is kinda following how music went now. All the major labels are putting out crap, you have to look at the indie labels for good stuff, but that can be a lot of work in itself.

That reminds me, I saw some Pac Man collection the other day, the old 2600/7800/arcade games, it was a few games and some history stuff, it was 17 GIGABYTES, FOR PACMAN.

It’s still bonkers to me, how we went through prohibition in America, and learned that you can’t control people’s behavior and that people love to get wasted or tipsy, but we can’t apply the same lessons learned to other drugs, and alcohol is very much a drug. It’s a fools errand to even attempt to eradicate drug use, it’s a waste of money and ruining countless lives every day, we need education, treatment, MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS AND REMOVING STIGMAS RELATED TO ASKING FOR HELP.
