And isn’t public WiFi more of a security issue than having your own carrier?
If you are an old programmer/geek young people will dismiss you even though they don’t even know what a folder is. They think they are IT experts because they can apply the latest instagram filters to their photos.

1·7 天前Good point. Maybe fix the typos in your first paragraph so that readers are not discouraged from reading the rest. The first comma needs to be a period too.
Sorry to be pedantic but your message is rarely raised so I/want want to ensure it gets attention.

21·19 天前It is delusional to think the chances are good of a neighbor just looking up the map and joining in. Geeks need to talk to people in real life, especially in their neighborhood. Team up with at least one other person. Use word of mouth. That is effective change.
Unfortunately I live in a remote area with non-tech people who are not conservative enough to be preppers. I will still run it past them though.

2·19 天前In NSW Australia there are hardly any two near each other. What is the point of all these people even buying one if you don’t team up with at least one neighbour?
Even a stopped clock…
It was the coalition which prevented the digital identity bill mandating that the ID be compulsory.
From the article: the gas corps “transfer their profits offshore to minimise their tax and pay no royalties”.
But that is a conservative paper. The reality is even worse.
AGL has been listed in Australian Taxation Office (ATO) transparency reports as one of the large companies that paid zero income tax in certain periods, such as the 2021-22 and 2023-24 financial years.

2·29 天前Thanks to both of you. Never heard of it before. Might come in handy when I make music. Have a fanless (ie silent) laptop under which I place picnic ice bricks. Controlling my desktop (sunshine) with the laptop (moonlight) might be better.

2·29 天前Yes I meant functionally ie I meant remote desktop generically rather than RDP. Can I think of sunshine & moonlight as just another alternative to VNC (except better performer?).

152·1 个月前It wasn’t the lag from the employee’s computer to Amazon which was being monitored.
It was the lag from the hacker to the employee. Amazon could not have monitored the hacker’s computer.
