Elves are constantly twisting the narrative about themselves, despite all the stories of how awful they are, people struggle to remember them that way. Grandma always said elves were… terrific.

Earth, Environment, and Geosciences@mander.xyz•World's ForestsEnglish
2·15 days agoAgreed. If a country managed to be 99% forest despite having a massive population (of forest druids I guess) then it’d have a lower score than an endless suburb with 5 nice trees.
Nobody said the wolf was good, he’s just announced that violence can be used to claim property. That’s not exactly a good solution to wealth distribution, at best it’s a reset button, at worst it’s the path to authoritarianism.
You sent 2 messages very close together, also the second is empty. Is your script broken?

5·19 days agoA weak theory, but Poland being one of a handful of countries with a reasonable claim to “inventing” the computer probably helps, mostly indirectly. When deciding to invest in tech education things like that can make a big difference by stoking some national pride. The UK has absolutely benefited from Turing’s legacy keeping us involved in tech (despite everything).
Having strong opinions about how people should behave that doesn’t align with everyone else’s is a natural path to authoritarianism, regardless of political alignment.
The best defence is accepting multiple ways to live, some hippies are open minded that way and I’d I expect them to be immune, but of course there’s always been the “oh you must not ever put unnatural chemicals in your body” or “we need to return to hunter gatherer dynamics which definitely existed in exactly the way I dream of” nutters, who are ripe for radicalising.

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Teenage Jehovah's Witness can receive blood transfusion, judge rulesEnglish
1·23 days agoIf I’m reading this right, the court only decided if the hospital can decide to give a blood transfusion after the operation. But the kid is still free to decide if they’ll accept the operation in the first place (or you know, just never show up), the kid knows about the court case, so they know if they accept the operation they are accepting a potential transfusion. So whilst everything you say is true, it doesn’t change the original issue I pointed out.

Technology@lemmy.world•Leaker Who Apple Is Suing Says 'Screw It,' Here's the Foldable iPhone EarlyEnglish
96·23 days agoThe camera bump sure isn’t going away for a folding phone. cameras have fundamental volume requirements to maintain quality, if they don’t think they can justify making the normal iPhone thick enough to enclose the camera then there’s no way in hell they’ll think the folding phones doubled width can include it, if anything you’d expect it to be more prominent on a folding model

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Teenage Jehovah's Witness can receive blood transfusion, judge rulesEnglish
1·23 days agoSure, that’s why this went to court, but the end result is the same, that the kid must now decide whether to have the operation knowing they might get a “sinful” blood transfusion, or refuse the entire operation.
Maybe the low risk of needing a transfusion will be enough to convince them it’s fine, or maybe the doctors don’t really care about the child’s welbeing and just wanted to be covered for all eventualities, but it’s still a bit of a perverse incentive

United Kingdom@feddit.uk•Teenage Jehovah's Witness can receive blood transfusion, judge rulesEnglish
4·24 days agoWhilst I certainly agree with the court that the blood transfusion is in their best interest, I do worry that they might just decide to refuse the entire operation now, seems like they’re now playing chicken with the kid and hoping their sense of self preservation overrides their faith. Not sure I’d play that game, religion is a powerful drug
I mean, Mother Nature is exactly that kind of cruel when left to her own devices. Human society is supposed to be better, though playgrounds usually aren’t much better.
Is poor? No. Fits vaguely into a poor stereotype or cultural corner? All the time.
Comic holding a mirror, discussing men and women behaving the same.
yeah but women are the same too!
Maybe the mechanic was doing their part for the planet by hiding that no exhaust would work, instead offering an expensive option to retain catalytic function, or the billboard.

Ah, but that’s a US power plug, do you want to wait 8 minutes for the meagre dribble of volts they provide to eventually boil the water? Not like our glorious high speed kettles. How about:

1·1 month agoThey did indeed, which is sort of the point you’re missing. Now you’re letting Israel dictate your messaging by supporting its use, bad plan.
If you want to help Israel, make an anti-Israel message that conflates Israel and Judaism (or just appears to), that’s their entire gambit right now, and it shields them by making anti-Israel messages trigger racism alarms and get ignored.
The more clearly anti-Israel messaging distances itself from anti-Jewish racism the harder Israel has to work, and combining a Star of David and a swastika is straight up zero effort for them. They probably don’t even need to throw any bot comments into the mix, real people will reach the conclusions they want without any help at all.

“Moon” is more an indictment of the mediocre fusion product of the mass being orbited than any statement about the orbiter.
