Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•People have near limitless options for what to watch on tv, and still complain
23·3 days agoQuantity ≠ quality. There’s also the phenomenon of overchoice, where having too many options leads to becoming overwhelmed and delaying/avoiding making decisions altogether.
Instead of endlessly listing through unfamiliar things to watch, ask for recommendations based on things you like or from others who share your tastes.
I’m in favor of anyone emailing whenever it is convenient for them as long as they do not expect a response outside of the recipient’s local working hours.

Yes! I love to incorporate all kinds of colors and patterns in my outfits while maintaining a distinctly “alt” style, and to see others do the same. I’m half-considering posting a few looks if I find the right community but think the desire for anonymity won’t let me.
Having fun with your style and enjoying the music and your community/events is way more important than fitting in with a certain aesthetic.
Every time I read about microwave cooking, I think back to this article where the author tried recipes from what has been labeled as the world’s saddest cookbook: Microwave Cooking for One.

8·8 days agoAlmost everyone I’ve ever been attracted to was significantly older than me. I liked that they usually knew what they wanted and were straightforward about it, had direction in life, and I simply find men in a certain age range more physically attractive. What mattered most was how we got along and that we enjoyed each other’s company.
The pros and cons varied more by the individual relationship rather than by age. Age does not always correspond to maturity or responsibility. Looking back, I was definitely not as mature as I thought I was either, so there were times where they would be annoyed watching me make a big deal over something they already went through long ago and in hindsight, was not important at all. That, or they never outgrew that phase themselves. Sometimes there would be a mismatch in physical activity levels (I like to stay active and include sport in dates), although this is again dependent on the individual.
As @[email protected] pointed out, the risk of age-related health complications also increases and it’s heartbreaking to watch your partner experience them (my condolences to you).
I read that in the voice of a German excited to show you his kitchen.
I wanted to find out where it came from because it’s such a clever and fun design. Found a Facebook post from someone who says they made it themselves after being inspired by another artist who makes furniture out of sea mines (I assume they were referring to this one).
So I guess it can be called…minecraft.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do I feel comfortable/safe going outside by myself after being so used to have parent(s) be with me outside most of my life?
8·9 days agoAs others have already said, exposure can be a good way to overcome fear. Start by going somewhere nearby. Maybe ask a friend or someone you feel safe with to accompany you on walks or public transportation a few times until you are familiar with the route or area. Download an offline map in case you get lost.
You said you feel out of place at your local library , but they’re a quiet, safe place where everyone generally minds their own business. You can probably even bring take your own ebooks there to read. You don’t have to interact with anyone if you don’t want to, just get used to being in a different setting.
You could try an alternative front-end for Instagram. I haven’t used them since I avoid the platform altogether, but I found this thread on the topic.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Has Canada's government done anything concrete to reduce dependence on the US since Trump took office? Maybe even since the first term?
40·9 days agoCanada has been boycotting American products and imposing counter-tariffs on them. Their prime minister also announced a plan to reduce reliance on the US by requiring its federal government to buy from local suppliers, creating a fund to help sectors most affected by US tariffs, investing in Canadian agriculture, and training its local workforce, among other things.
Here’s a link to that goes into detail about the measures being taken.

I often combine grocery shopping with the walks I take. If I’m not in a hurry and don’t need too many things that would be hard to carry, I’ll stop by the grocery store. When the weather is bad I might buy enough to avoid going out far for the next few days. I also keep a list of what I need to buy on my phone and update it when something runs out or is bought.

Goth❌Industrial@lemmy.world•Kant Kino - We Are Kant Kino - You Are Not (2010) [Album]English
2·14 days agoThanks for the background information! I try to post lesser-known artists from various countries. Sometimes it’s just whatever happens to be on my playlist that day (some of it is a bit, ah, vulgar, so I’m trying to behave myself).
I discover quite a bit of new music in this community myself. I liked the song you posted yesterday, Her by Claire Voyant, for instance.
Happy New Year! You did a nice job with the texture on the balloons. 🎈
Surely there’s a less passive-aggressive way to ask someone about their hobbies and get across that you have interests beyond work…

What a pretty design! Love the combination of pink with the shades of green. 🪷
