1·6 months agoYeah this guy is grossly overestimating the intelligence of businesses when it comes to software. I’ve seen a major company spending 20000+ a month on aws for servers they never used. And that was just for a single site, I can only imagine what’s going on in other branches of the company.
My 1 year dashpass expiring was the best thing to happen to me. Lost 10+ pounds in a month just eating pb&j or pb&banana for lunch. Also saved like $300 a month.

49·2 years agoAhh yes that totally what everyone will think when talking about torturing someone with a car battery. This is like saying tires are dangerous because cars run people over. The guy above was simply informing people that (rightfully) would get the idea that the ran electrodes to his nipples and cooked him like a hot dog. Sure a car battery is dangerous if used dangerously.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Rant: My recent experience of trying to install windows for gaming and why I'm really thankful for Linux
31·2 years agoI’ve fully given up on vr in Linux after spending a whole day trying to get it to work. I have Nobara and modern AMD hardware, tried SteamVR and FOSS VR (envision) (which was awful to set up on the “gaming OS”). I booted into my windows partition, clicked a button to update AMD Adrenalin (and several years of windows updates) and VR simply worked.
I love Linux but it definitely has its own issues. My boss (who got me into Linux) vented some of his frustrations with Linux while installing Android studio: “linux makes up a few percentage of the userbase but 90% of the OS’s. It’s far too splintered.” I have to agree, and it’s why i will likely always have a windows partition. Because things just work, and if they don’t I have a wealth of information on the internet because there is only one OS people can have this problem with.
I think the valve and the steam deck is doing the linux community a massive solid and somewhat unifying the Linux gaming community.

1·2 years agoPlease do! I had spent solid day researching open source CALDAV server/clients to replace Google calendar for my boss. Almost no options on that front.

8·2 years agoI love the docker / traefik setup we have at work. We get tls certified domains for any docker container we run with just a few lines of yml. I can spin up a site in seconds.
