I would consider, as a thought experiment, why McDonalds in China is still an example of socialism (I deliberately chose that example because of the contradictions it brings as it may allow for a much more dialectical materialist take of what socialism is).

• 1. in general there is no such thing as brainwashing; people intelligently look for narratives that align along imperialist lines where they have perceived to benefit from those material conditions implicitly or explicitly - the narratives are a social license for bigotry and propaganda helps draw where those acceptable boundaries for discourse and action is. This is the correct dialectical materialist take, otherwise one elevates the superstructure over the base and the idea over the material - one of the key reasons why Western Marxism is wrong:

• 2. there is no political theory of change here why critical support of a socially conservative state is correctly considered not reactionary, and it is less reactionary than the westerner who maybe in favour of nominal women’s/lgbtq rights (and without resorting to patsoc takes). Being anti-western is an excellent heuristic because of how bad the west but is not a science of why the west is the way it is or explain comprador classes beyond “people like money” and “self hate”.
• 3. the reason (2) is important is because without it you will not be able to forumlate/ go beyond significantly (a) how to defend anti-imperialism - going from the “west should do no harm” to “it is a given that the west is harmful so how do we defend against it” (b) how to build a society that sublimates western exploitation (china) not one that may seek instead to get a bigger piece of the pie (india). Think of Paolo Friere’s the oppressed sees their model of manhood in the oppressor. (And for example here how pseudo-compador liberal-aligned classes within Iran is holding it back in its fight against imperialism)
• 4. with all the above it is how you move from radlib to marxism; the science of dialectical materialism and away from idealism, and how to consider anti-imperialism beyond vibes.
• 5. furthermore it moves away from an orientalist and paternalistic view of political and economic justice; and start rooting emanicpation from the global south proleteriat upwards

My understanding of geopolitics has changed over time to consider that bourgoisie aligned groups and classes will organically form in post-formal-colonial countries - with or without a dictatorship of capital - with their north star aligning without much effort with the commanding heights of imperialism - the US. It’s why, aesthetics aside, liberals all over the world are so American.

Imperialism can deepen its roots elsewhere because there is fertile soil for them to find.

One could argue that is what marxism-leninism calls for; it is the science of capital and how to build socialism from it and therefore strategies that win against the first global contradiction - US imperialism - would echo this no matter what they call themselves.

The lessons from Russia is attrition but I am not exactly sure how that would work here. I have read elsewhere that the US advantage would be to finish quickly and that it would be in Iran’s interest to drag it out at multiple chokepoints.

I really wish these non-marxist but still anti-imperialist countries could disavow their liberal brainworms and implement a more centralised planned economy (can always revert to an “NEP” later) with guaranteed jobs/housing/sustinance and all hands on deck for food, medicine and war tech development.

Whenever someone responds with apparent legalism in defense of the indefensible the reply to that should be why their first response was not that the law should be changed instead. But what about all the NHS clapping and flag hoisting. Oh it’s still a shithole just now being more open against murder of brown and disabled folks. Being a westerner is a disease. Watch the guardian then write “but what about china and russia” and double down on the crocodile tears for “women’s rights” in Iran as a pretense for more war on the very next page with no fucking sense of shame. The Reform Party and the Guardian are two sides of the same fascist coin.

The kernel of truth here is that they admit that the evil they project on to Iran they are guilty themselves. Only a fascist would see those numbers on the right (as “conservative” as they are; read probably at least an order of magnitude wrong) and consider it restraint.

The numbers on the left they have literally no credible sources. With 50000 you would think they would at least fake one. This all proves that westerners are itching for a narrative as a license for bigotry; they are not needing much “persuasion”/“brainwashing” to be convinced.

The material conditions, including for westerners, comes before the idea. It is why theory doesn’t always change their mind and break their orientialist perspective. As long as one treats the “conversion to marxism” along positivist lens then we will be confounded that when someone reads the same theory we do come to a different conclusion along imperialist lines. And if one is a westerner then it is worthwhile examining how one’s personal material conditions allowed them to be more receptive to marxist ideas.

Unless I am reading this wrong the above has got a lot of “no one else worthy was killed in the holocaust” vibes. Ie suggesting not to compare “illegals” to jewish holocaust victims?

Like the main reason we have to use Nazi war crimes as allegories because westerners (as a class) have no universally accepted evil as a common ground of understanding for comparison, having minimised the evils of imperialism and colonisation.

This is just advertising to liberals who are distraught by these murders that zionists are fascists.
