Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Reverse Proxy: a single point of failure in my labEnglish
2·30 days agoMy setup is a bit different, but maybe you can reuse part of it. Instead of using swarm for HA, I’m using proxmox. The LXCs have a failover to other machine (if they go down), and a static IP address, so if the http proxy machine goes down, it boots back up in another machine, with the same IP (and thus a working port forward).
This does mean that I have to keep the configuration in sync between different machines so my RPO is never too big, but for something like NPM where the config rarely changes, this isn’t much of an issue.

16·30 days agoWait really? I thought I knew a lot of details about America, but not that. In the EU I’ve never seen a for pay air hose.
Shit, if I go to a tire shop they’ll probably do it for free.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What was the best Christmas you've ever had?English
28·1 month agoIn 98 I was in my early teens, and I got Banjo-Kazooie I was so happy, I jumped up and down, told my parents that this was exactly the game I wanted. I was thrilled. They were thrilled that I was. Life was good.
Unbeknownst to them, 2 weeks earlier I had carefully opened the gift, and had been playing the game over Christmas break. What I opened that night was an empty box, as the game sat inside the N64, where I was halfway to the end. Everyone won that Christmas. I won by playing sooner, and they won with my momentary fake enthusiasm (which was real, I really was thrilled to get the game).
Something something, life was never that good again, and I can only hope to give half that feeling to my kids now.
It’s a really good documentary because a lot of them actually want to be scientific about it.
But instead of following the scientific process of test->observe->draw a conclusion, they start with the conclusion and look for a way to prove it. And when the prof isn’t there, they simply say the test was flawed, and move on to the next test that will prove it.
It’s sad in a way. I don’t think, most of them anyway, are con man. They’re just misguided.

6·4 months agoOh that’s exactly what I meant. Infrastructure needs to serve the safety of the cyclists, and drivers need to stop getting these ridiculous slaps on the wrist for how they behave in their 2 ton metal cages.
