10·8 months ago15 years ago I went on a 3 month Semester at Sea study trip on a small cruise ship circumnavigating the globe.
There was only a handful of whitelisted sites available on the WiFi, otherwise you would need to pay a ton for the satellite connection or … have a staff password.
At least with my group we had a a healthy list of credentials that had been acquired in various ways. Even with occasional password changes, we managed to stay connected.

11·8 months agoI have a 45 minute high speed train commute to a busy end-of-line station. I can sleep, read, work, or just stare out the window and think.
Same commute is probably twice as long by car during rush hour.

4·9 months agoI’ve had simple, single-speed back-pedal braking bikes for more than twenty years as my primary transportation.
It’s not that I’m disinterested in other bikes but just don’t want to compromise on things you mentioned like maintainability.
I want a bike that will last for decades, even if it trades hands many times. I’ve bought a new bike in the past but my current daily ride is older than I am.

42·10 months agoMy primary mode of transportation is a bike and IMO not all e-bikes are real bikes.
Pedal-assist sure but if there is a throttle (and pedaling is optional) then I consider it a moped.
Not that I’m opposed to mopeds…

Usually because of scalability concerns, increasing complexity of the system and technical debt coming due.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•How do you organize your 3d printing/modeling project folder(s)?English
3·1 year agoI use:
- A projects folder with CAD files (sub-folders for bigger projects)
- A models folder with mesh exports and downloads
- A watched folder with gcode getting rsynced to my octoprint and auto-removed
Never found it useful to save configs from my slicer.

So, you’re telling me that I’ll needs to use my… legs?
Dear god.
