Technology@lemmy.world•OpenAI's GPT Trademark Request Has Been DeniedEnglish
351·2 years agoWow, talk about malicious intent. Trying to trademark the name of the technology after it gets traction. Way to screw the whole AI community over.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What would you change about your favorite Linux distribution?
5·2 years agoI think the point is that if one needs to read a thousand pages of documentation before they can start using a new operating system they will just give up regardless of how good it is.
Installing packages is probably one of the first things you’d want to do so there is a lot of value in keeping its design intuitive.
The ‘you can make an alias or script for it’ argument only works if someone already has a working understanding of the underlying mechanisms. Which you can assume it someone gradually gets introduced to a Programme, but not if they are making a big switch like installing a new OS.

Probably. It was a reply to someone writing that the solution would be for me to not buy their product.
I’m not buying any Shell products. Yet they destroy my life and world.

homeassistant@lemmy.world•Home Assistant Core Update 2023.12.0 - /sys/firmware no longer has model dataEnglish
1·2 years agoI think you are more than welcome to make a Fork and do this. You can backport all fixes and not implement new features.
I think new features is one of the core reasons the projects gets more contributors, and it sorely needs those. I understand why the focus is now on that.
If you want stability, I’d suggest maybe finding some likely minded people and go and maintain a Long Term Stable version.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Is there a Linux based OS for public computers, such as at a library or a PC cafe?
13·2 years agoI know the Danish OS2 foundation maintains a distro explicitly for Public computers in libraries.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something that you were surprised to find out a lot of people hate?
1·2 years agoYour point was not about his stuff but about his person. I read up on them and see it is a terrible, uncompassionate and frankly hateful person. That is not for me.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What's something that you were surprised to find out a lot of people hate?
72·2 years agoI didn’t know who he was. After just reading his Wikipedia page I really understand why people hate him. I think I might as well.

Linus Tech Tips@lemmy.ml•Madison talks about her experience at LTT (CW: self-harm, sexual assault)
443·2 years agoThis is terrible. I hope LTT is done for and this can be reckoned with. Also, some of this might be better turned into a criminal case.

I love Qobuz, they seem to be the only service with a real API. Although poorly documented. I have integrated some things with my home automation and it works with very high res sounds on my connected amplifiers.
