9·19 天前Not really the same situation, but I got my driver’s license at 43 years old. Leading up to me taking lessons, I was overthinking the whole process. So a few thoughts from that angle for the driving itself:
- take some refresher lessons with an instructor. For me it was reassuring to have a professional in the car. That should help you with the distance calculation bit.
- when you start driving on your own, try to avoid high stress situations. Like, avoid rush hour, take short trips on routes your familiar with.
- somewhat the opposite, but not really: take a road trip. Go somewhere quiet, into the country side. Gain familiarity and confidence.
- as you get more used to it, you’ll find that it becomes more and more normal and less stressful.
- drive defensively. Leave space. If others butt in, let them and give them space.
For some other points you mentioned:
- get a cushion to raise you up if you can’t adjust the seat height. I am average height and did that to get better visibility.
- blind spots are also car dependent. Are you tired to a specific car, or can you shop around, maybe for something smaller?
I recently re-discovered Deathtrack.
Can’t watch the video now, but why build it next to the white house instead of literally anywhere else?
I’m not gonna pretend everything is fine and dandy here. Not an Alberta native, and a lot of things still shock me even after 3 years here (how dominant religion is in some segments of the population, all the fucking trucks everywhere all the time, people keep on voting conservative despite, well, everything they’re actually doing…). But I don’t think it’s as big of a majority as one would think. FPTP politics will distort reality and make the place look more conservative than it really is. All that to say - I get the negative image, and the reality on the ground will vary based on where you are and who you meet. Hopefully we can get the place into a state where people feel safe coming here.

3·1 个月前Bring in European/NATO country civilian aid to fix it. If Russia strikes again, you now have a reason to escalate support for Ukraine (including interpreting this as an attack on non Ukrainian assets). If they don’t, the sarcophagus gets fixed. Which is the main goal.
Don’t do karaoke often, but I’ve done Mexican Radio by Wall of Voodoo more than once.
Next time I might try Das Model by Kraftwerk, or I wanna be your dog by Iggy Pop. My singing voice is not great, but I might pull that off.

A second hand carrier unlocked pixel 7 cost me CAD 200 on eBay. It’s not super cheap, but also not flagship phone level.

Also having the discipline to do an actual proper review of the output is hard. I bet that gets skipped s lot even for people who know better.
