Great to see the real numbers, thank you. I agree with the sentiment about manufacturing. If it were me, I would tie expanded levels to local manufacturing, with more favorable rates for non-luxury vehicles.

I’m in one of the big cities affected by this in Ontario. I’ve got mixed feelings, but I think this may end up being for the better. With all the American manufacturers backsliding on their EV transitions and keeping their prices sky-high for whatever they do have—all while refusing to stand up to Trump in any meaningful way—now, they’ll have to compete or risk losing the market entirely. I still think we should do more and accept vehicle standards from other countries in our market, not just the American ones. This should lower vehicle costs and, in turn, insurance rates for affordable vehicles. It should also make it more economical to export products directly to China, rather than the current convoluted process of selling to intermediary countries that add minimal processing before re-exporting to China at a higher cost.

If it isn’t clear by now that the media is just making this all worse I don’t know what to tell you. All they do is sit down and think about what questions will rile up Trump or people on the other end of Trump. Go out and listen to the ridiculous questions they ask him on air force one or really any of their impromptu Q&A sections. They thrive on chaos and misery. I wish there was a way to more directly negatively impact them for this but it seems like all I can do is refuse to listen or read their headlines.

The answers already mentioned are great but I want to add a bit as well. Remember that just like you or I grew up in the countries or culture/group(s) we grew up in and have some allegiance, hold dignity in or have warm feelings for, so do Russia/USSR/KGB about their countries or culture/group. Unfortunately It doesn’t seem to really matter for most people if you are in the “wrong” or not. Human nature, society and our baser instincts tell us that betraying, speaking ill, or leaving these places or things are not only bad, but a hugely taboo thing that is one of the most shameful things possible. it runs counter to the baser instincts that have allowed humans to survive as a species. Whats more in a more practical way the majority of the Russian population that the most powerful people are scared of are not really seeing the full damage wholesale. So it’s easier to dismiss concerns and issues as exceptions or “one offs” even when life is hard it’s easy to compartmentalize it. especially if your culture has an attitude of “Shut up, it could be worse!”. unfortunately Russia seems to be shaping up their population to get rid of the people that pose no risk, trying to solve the problem until they win or they cause their society to shatter. the unfortunate thing is that Russia doesn’t even fully understand all they have lost yet (no one ever truly does until it’s over and they can look back), but they may have already sealed their own fate. There is no amount of children or resources to loot from Ukraine that will undo the damage done by the current war even in the best case scenario. Russian leadership has pretty much dug their own grave as they sacrifice more and more to build their own gallows(the wartime economy that crushes nations and weapons they have neither the people, or allies to sell to).

If they think that Doug Ford (DoFo) is going to start being nice and quiet by refusing to negotiate or that he is going to suffer in the polls because of this they’ve misread the situation. If anything this just hardens everyone’s resolve that Trump will be petty about even minor grievances and therefore we should accelerate our move away from the USA and look more to the other big guys in the room. If trump is as petty and as much of a “pain” to deal with as china or India but with the only benefit being distance then maybe we need to start setting things up to deal with them more and work on cutting the US out of our dealings with Mexico.

If the US wants to try and kill the auto sector and lumber industry in Canada. lets make them priorities and make the transit of those resources to ports a priority. if pipelines are such a no go for BC then lets expand rail west. rail can be used for lumber, auto, crops and oil. There seems to be more appetite for a pipeline east especially if it replaces the oil pipeline that goes south through the US and the great lakes and instead goes around it through the prairie’s and Ontario. Ontario has Break Bulk ports and many cities that would love to build them if they are given capital and an opportunity to be the next trans mountain project of the east.

maybe also time to look for some other company to buy the Brampton, Oshawa and Ingersoll plants. maybe some EV manufacturers in china want to assemble there or maybe some low cost smaller cheaper vehicles from India could be made there.

The US thinks they have us pinned down (mostly because they do at the moment) lets make that not the case in the future so we can still do business without involving them. That will hurt far more than any commercial can.

can you explain what you mean? what do you mean by verify? the contents integrity(a checksum)? the ability to confirm it was not modified once distributed (Public key cryptography e.g. PGP)? something else?

in fairness English does this a lot even in the modern day, take for example words like Umami, Siesta, Rendezvous, or Schadenfreude. these get sprinkled into conversations to add context and add “flair” to conversations or to attempt to communicate more eloquently. There’s this culture of English being such a widely used and flexible standard where rules are far too complex or dependent on location that there is relatively few “language police” and you can pretty much get away with any other languages loan words as long as it is an adjective or noun. People like to sound intelligent and cultured and sprinkling a couple easy to recognize loan words tends to “fit the bill”.

This all comes down to the old adage “You’re judged by the company you keep”. Being an admin choosing not to interact with or banning/blocking those that you or your community would find harmful is part of the job. That doesn’t make them an asshole. Whether you like it or not you have surrounded yourself with a significant number of problematic topics and stances and people are going out of the way to distance themselves from you. online communication mediums are not guaranteed and participation is optional. You may want to consider why others are treating you this way and why it continues to happen. take a step back and really consider what has been said, the good news is that if you want to change you can, the online sphere cares very little about who you are and a lot about how you treat and communicate with others. It depends entirely on what form it is in. mined Lithium (Spodumene) smells like dirt/rocks (because surprise, surprise, that’s what it is), Metallic Lithium is very soft and reactive so it has no smell besides the mineral oil it’s often kept in (or the smell of burnt hair and a sharp metallic smell if you were silly enough to try and dry it off and smell it as it burst into flames/smoke). @[email protected] covers it best when they said that it smells sweet (in a lot of batteries). I’ve heard it described before as smelling like Peardrax (sweet pear flavoured sparkling beverage) and having had it I’d agree. FYI most forms you would come into contact with are acutely toxic so maybe don’t mess with it too much.

Something to keep in mind is if you have a diet that requires you to avoid sugar(diabetic/keto) don’t buy heinz no sugar added, it’s made in the USA. Buy French’s they make no sugar added ketchup made in Canada with the same ingredients as there regular blend but use sucralose instead of sugar. (Haven’t found a brand that’s Canadian owned that I can buy outside of amazon :( )

He certainly has a flair for taking something relatively small, that a solution already exists for and suggesting something bureaucratic, unnecessary, and completely outside his technical competence. You’re going to have a hard time getting anyone to say in any concrete way that one license or another is compatible because apple has never stated which licenses are compatible or not. they only point at the terms of service and tell you to figure it out yourself and be prepared for apple to remove it at any time if they disagree with you/your lawyer.

So I’ll be the first to say this is not my specialty but from what I’ve read there are at least 3 separate hadith’s that ban them: From Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 5946): “Do not practise tattooing and do not get yourselves tattooed.” From Jami` at-Tirmidhi (Hadith 2782): “The Prophet (SAW) cursed the women who practice tattooing and those who seek to be tattooed, the women who remove hair from their faces seeking beautification by changing the creation of Allah.” From Sahih al-Bukhari (Hadith 5937): “Allah has cursed the woman who tattoos (herself or someone else) or gets herself tattooed.”

they are pretty clear on why they view them so negatively. pretty much any permanent bodily change is frowned upon as quite a few hadith’s all link back to “not altering Allah’s creation”.

for some context the other abrahamic religions are more and more mixed but they also view it somewhat negatively though they tend to pull from Leviticus 19:28. which says : “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the Lord.” which is historically believed to be a combination of stopping them from taking up beliefs of other popular religions that did this, and was reinforced by not wanting to emulate or imitate what were done to slaves/property of the time (slaves/property were branded/tattooed).
