2·6 days agoYou’re right I more meant there isn’t a market based on the value the Mavs likely want to get back based on reports.

NBA@lemmy.world•Antony Davis to Undergo Hand Surgery; Out Several MonthsEnglish
3·6 days agoYeah there already wasn’t really a market but now I don’t think anyone is going to bother when they can just wait until the summer
I think using the previous trades of 4+ picks for valuation is inaccurate in the current market because way more teams are super conscious about avoiding the salary cap aprons.
Having locked in low salary players on rookie deals is huge for team building so picks are a bit more valuable especially given a lot of teams don’t have their own picks anymore.
I would say the exception to this is for a true tier 1 talent like Giannis since those players are worth the risk of an all in play but someone like Trae or Morant who have clear risks plus their salary impact to the rest of team building makes their trade value lower than in previous CBA agreements.

Feel like a lot of stars are possibly moving either this deadline or this summer.

Lefty Memes@lemmy.dbzer0.com•anarchists dont worship theoryEnglish
131·19 days agoFeel like that’s a bit of a straw man - Lenin didn’t claim that his contribution to Marxist theory constituted naming a new ideology after himself.
It was after his death that the idea that his work had advanced understanding of Marxism enough and that it had led to a revolution that that it should be an ideology.
There’s plenty of authors of Marxist theory that don’t end up in -isms but still have very valuable contributions.
This is coming from someone who thinks the “anarchist don’t read theory” thing is overplayed as most of the IRL anarchists I know do read theory.

3·20 days agoGlad it’s not more serious but sucks it will likely take him out of the MVP running with the 65 game threshold.
Unfortunately I think the article is correct in that China currently won’t do much materially if the US attacks Venezuela. 😔
If it was closer in its sphere of influence (and more importantly closer where it’s navy could reach) it would be a different but with the distance it makes the logistics very difficult.
Yes I agree Stalin rolling back the LGTBQ rights was a massive mistake and is a good example of why we need to be diligent in our work even after a revolution as reactionary ideas can try to come back.
Once Communism is reached it will be fully emancipatory but the path to getting there (socialism) still has many challenges and can have setbacks as contradictions between classes (and groups) still exist.

Pravda News!@news.abolish.capital•How Beijing’s severe pollution turned into clear blue skies over a few years
4·26 days agoMeasure to fight pollution take years to pay off. China had in fact been battling bad air for decades before cleaner skies became tangible. By the 2008 Olympic Games, pollution abatement equipment had been mandated and installed on the vast majority of its thermal power plants. This was technology that removed up to 95 percent of Sulphur Dioxide emissions. Nitrogen oxide-removing tech was next to become widely installed.
Through a combination of closing or upgrading coal-fired brick kilns and other polluting industries, enforcing strict vehicular emissions standards, transitioning to cleaner energy sources like natural gas and renewables, and promoting electric vehicles (EVs), Beijing’s air was gradually, not suddenly, cleaned.
In 2014, China updated its environmental protection law to give local authorities the power to detain company bosses who failed to complete environmental impact assessments. The law also removed limits on the fines that firms could be subject to for breaching pollution quotas.
Very interesting article on the steps they took to reduce air pollution! The last paragraph (emphasis mine) really shows how serious they take it and how serious other countries should as well.

4·26 days agoYou’re really coming on an anti capitalist instance and pearl clutching over intellectual property theft lmao?
I agree! the key point is stability as when people’s basic needs are increasingly met they aren’t as susceptible to reactionary ideas and propaganda that their issues are due to X group.
It takes time and education to change opinions on this stuff unfortunately. Even with Castro’s public support it was still a few years before the constitution was changed because as you said the voting populace still has contradictions.
Capitalism will eventually lead to crisis tho and reactionaries will use those to strip away these rights and target these groups which is why I still think the meme is correct that the only way to get lasting rights for all people is to reject capitalism.
A counter example is Cuba is now one of the most progressive countries when it comes to LGTBQ+ rights. Good Communists push to support all sexualities and genders but the material conditions of the country can limit and slow that development.
Russia has been capitalist again for 20+ years and yet it isn’t a bastion of freedom for these groups.

NBA@lemmy.world•Adam Silver Says Decison on Expansion Will Come in 2026English
4·1 month agoI think they’re doing it but are just trying to get the most money out of the expansions fees as they can.
I do get you’re splitting revenue but I think adding Las Vegas and Seattle would bring in enough revenue to justify it.
Now after those I’m not sure what other markets could support enough to justify it to the existing owners. Maybe Vancouver? I know Mexico City gets brought up occasionally.
Yeah I think they’re the only team with a chance to stop OKC in the cup this year, really excited for the matchup!

Was interested in how similar to the original group they were and found their website here.
Skimming it over they are still explicitly marxist-Leninist and largely seem to uphold the same ideas and values as the original just updated to the current struggle!
Edit: My mistake it appears this may be a different group than the specific one in this article per @[email protected]
