Well because you asked… It’s fake because if you’re a native New Yorker (or I assume if you’ve lived there long enough) you become numb to the nose and stop hearing it. And probably more importantly, people scream at the top of their lungs in NYC all the damn time, New Yorkers DO. NOT. RESPOND. YOU DO NOT LOOK. YOU IGNORE. Eye contact is a great way to get assaulted by a homeless person who is possibly dealing with psychosis.

Lastly NO ONE in New York uses the phrase “badda bing badda boom”, that’s some lame Hollywood trope, I’ve literally never heard anyone use it in real life.

Agreed lemme is probably one of the most negative places on the Internet. I joined because I was hoping this place would grow to be a proper alternative for Reddit, with fun niche content, and its own culture of obscure inside jokes. Instead even after several years it still feels like we are the angry trolls living under reddit’s shadow.

One of the biggest things I’ve found that helped me avoid the politics was to leave lemme.world and fill my personal feed up with subscriptions to content that fits my interest. Politics has ways of working its way into content none the less, but at least I’ve got a fighting chance.

I really do believe lemme is going to struggle to find people who want to stick around unless it starts to embrace fun light hearted content. I’m not sure how we’d do that as a platform, but I do believe that’s one of the big reasons people will struggle to adopt this corner of the Internet as their own.

  • To clarify by modern man, I meant a human living in the year 2026 who eats a “modern diet” of (at least partially) processed foods with significantly lower fiber intake than that of a preindustrial man. (Obviously this would be excluding currently living humans who are living in tribal conditions, such as those living in North Sentinel Island.)

I was not attempting to imply that those living at that time were of a different species than homosapiens. To be honest if they were a different species I’m not sure my comment would have made sense as different homo species would likely have subtle differences in their digestive tracks than homosapiens.

  • I mean you’ll probably get runny shits from eating it due to the excess fiber, but I’m fairly certain the ancient nomadic tribes who first started eating wheat like that probably had significantly more fiber in their diets than modern man and eating it like that would probably be far less of a shock to their system than us puny fiber weaklings.

  • Respectfully, the problem with that line of thinking is it’s effectively based on a strawman. Veganism is not about perfectionism, nor is it about living like some monk in the woods who does not harm a single blade of grass. Veganism is about not viewing animals as commodities and reducing as much harm is reasonably possible.

The problem with modern supply chains is that you can’t know every detail about the goods you are purchasing, so vegans make decisions based on what they know, it’s common for vegans to accidentally purchase a product with animal products. So you just go oops and try better next time. It’s not really as complicated as you are making out to be in your head.

But to directly answer your question how do you avoid food that have been grown with things like feather meal and manure? The answer is simple but a lot of people aren’t going to like it. You avoid buying organic, and if possible you support local farmers which grow in a way which aligns with your values. And if you can, start a garden and grow some of your own food.

  • You’re right, I’m really confused by the treatment of Wesley in Picard. Like he weirdly, inexplicably shows up at the tail end of season 2, and doesn’t interact with Picard. Then in season 3, when it would have made a lot of sense for him to come up in conversation they just ignored him. Minimally you’d think at some point, someone would have asked why on earth does Beverly keep popping out kids with super powers?

This is EVEN MORE CONFUSING when you realize Wil Wheaton worked for Secret Hideout and was hosting the Picard “after show”. Which means they could have just asked Wil to make a cameo as Wesley, but they chose not to.

I’m not an expert in the whole giant pumpkin phenomenon, but it’s my understanding that the pumpkins are generally grown by hobbyists for fun rather than farmers on an industrial scale. So I don’t think it’s a trade-off on our food system, where kids are starving in Africa because farmers are wasting their resources growing pumpkins. I think it’s more of an, “look what I did” type thing.
