GNU/Linux Gaming on Kbin@kbin.social•I want to return to Linux. Recomendations?

so I can totally ditch chromium/electron
GNOME Web isn’t Chromium-based and does support PWAs, so it might work for your usecase.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•My office has automatic faucets in the bathroom and I've started sticking my hands under the faucet at home and wondering for a second where the water is.
11·3 years agoSomeone I know recently switched from automatic bathroom lights to manual ones. Remembering to turn them on isn’t an issue, but months later everyone still forgets to turn them off.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•What hostname do you use for server? home.box or home.local?
10·3 years agoAnd
.boxhas been registered as a generic TLD now, so you could run into external .box domains.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Dutch government starts own Mastodon instance as reaction to the instability of Twitter
25·3 years agoThey’re not going to have open signups. It’s government agencies only. Not that there’s technically anything stopping Germans from joining the PR departments of our government agencies…

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•So I tried signing up for Twitter to do a little trolling there...
122·3 years agoSo what you’re saying is that Twitter successfully kept out a bad actor.
It’s a shame that most of the users they have left are also in that category, but hey, they seem to be working on it.

Technology@kbin.social•Google’s medical AI chatbot is already being tested in hospitals
2·3 years agoThat’s the real AI apocalypse:
- People outsourcing decisions to predictive text because they believe it thinks
- AI hallucinations becoming commonly accepted as truth, as generated articles bury actual knowledge in a flood of bull droppings

Fedora Linux: It's your Operating System.@kbin.social•UNOFFICIAL poll about OPT-OUT metrics proposal
1·3 years agoYou’ll still have the people who are opposed to any telemetry at all, but I think that would do a lot to alleviate the concerns.

Firefox@fedia.io•delete all site setting and cookies exceptions on firefox mobile
1·3 years agoAs far as I know you can’t set exceptions on mobile Firefox yet. It’s rather annoying.

World News@lemmy.world•France passes bill to allow police remotely activate phone camera, microphone, spy on people
61·3 years agoThese are all fine in the US, but in other countries not carrying proof of identity can get you into some trouble, as can refusing to talk to the police. Know your local laws.

Firefox@lemmy.world•Firefox 115 can silently remotely disable my extension on any site
2·3 years agoAh, I see. Looks like that should enable people to take individual domains off the list, too, if they want their extensions to work on just some of them.

Firefox@lemmy.world•Firefox 115 can silently remotely disable my extension on any site
3·3 years agoIs there a list somewhere of these “quarantined” domains?

7·3 years agouBlock Origin seems to be included in the whitelist, so I’m sure the point of this isn’t to show you ads.

Reddit Migration@kbin.social•Unlike previous attempts at trying reddit alternatives (like Voat), kbin and much of the lemmyverse doesn’t seem to be plagued with extreme far right buffoonery.
1·3 years agoI’m also getting a login page from your link (‘copy url to fediverse’ on /kbin) when logged out, but not from this one (‘copy url’ on /kbin).

Linux@kbin.social•The Current Challenges With Using Linux On Airplanes
4·3 years agoA FreeRTOS derivative has gone through the effort of getting certified for safety critical applications, but that derivative is sadly proprietary. Even if FreeRTOS itself can’t meet that bar, though, the work wouldn’t have to start from scratch.

2·3 years agoKbin.social doesn’t require you to log in to see content, or at least it doesn’t when I try. Here’s a link to the same comment on lemmy.world (I don’t see the comic) and on fedia.io, a different Kbin instrance (also no comic). No idea why it’s only showing up on this instance.

Programming•This misleading, GPT generated article is on the first page of Google results for "ECMAScript 2023"
1·3 years agoLooking at it optimistically, maybe we’ll start seeing some improvements in documentation as everything else becomes useless.

2·3 years agoEither it was edited in and that edit didn’t reach your instance, or Lemmy doesn’t like something about how Kbin does images. Either way, here’s a direct link to the comic (you’ll have seen it before, it’s posted a lot).

Does the certificate have a basic constraints extension with
CA:TRUEset? Firefox doesn’t allow that for certificates used as ‘end entity’ certificates. You’ll want to re-generate the certificate without the extension.
