Yup. At my job it’s fairly common for annoying “urgent” requests to come in late afternoon on Fridays. Often from some of the upper management folks who do very little work. They finally realize “whoops, the weekend is almost here!” They suddenly want to check a box somewhere to make it look like they actually did something this week. And, of course, the requests are always a hand-off to someone in my department to do the actual work (which the requestor will take full credit for after we close the ticket).

362·3 months agoLots of, uh, interesting comments here. My 2-cents worth of advice:
-
Be highly suspicious of arguments that are essentially punching down on workers, all Americans, common people being lazy, stupid, etc. It’s class warfare (always has been) and the enemy are the oligarchs, not your fellow working class people.
-
Calls to violence this early are pathetic. The non-violent activism is working and it’s only just barely even started. Calls to violence are from meatheads with zero patience (and likely zero understanding of how horrible that outcome will be for everyone involved).

No thanks. But nice try, travel agent cartoonist!

Joke’s on them. I get up at 5AM and I’m a worthless member of society.

I am a side sleeper. I find I sleep better if the head of the bed is tilted up a few degrees. So I’m really saying this cartoon is actual science, folks.

I’ve been to Vegas a couple of times, many years ago. I enjoyed the shows, food, and silly debauched spectacle of it all. But it gets old after a day or two.
Did almost no gambling at all. The machines are very boring to me, and I’m too intimidated to play at a real game with other humans. I would misunderstand the rules and the odds, and screw up the etiquette. I know enough to know that the house has a significant edge in almost any game you play against them. Even on the “best” odds games.
One of the guys that I went with made a decent chunk of money at Texas Hold’em. He said he really wasn’t that great at it, he just got lucky and found a table full of drunk tourists who couldn’t play for shit, and yet they would try to chase after it.
The casinos that have popped up in my home town all look dreadfully depressing.
It’s sad how normalized gambling addiction has become.

My LG Gram still going strong after almost 3 years. Amazing battery life, extremely lightweight. Absolutely useless for gaming, but it’s been awesome for what I actually use it for. It travels with me every week in a backpack.
Here’s how I frame it to myself: that person is basically screaming into the void after I block them. Sure, other people on here can see what they wrote, but 99.9% of them won’t care or remember. I was their “intended target” and I’ll never see their stupid comment. If it makes you feel any better, I’ve noticed a lot of troll types really hate being blocked and complain about it fairly regularly. You blocked them, you won the peace of them no longer existing for you.
Also, if you’ve blocked them for being obnoxious, others probably have, too.

4·4 months agoI’m not trying to defend PFAS, especially on the manufacturing side. But it’s my understanding if you ingest small particles that have been scratched off into your food, they are pretty harmless and pass out in your waste. It’s the liquid stuff that gets into the environment that’s poisoning everyone. To clarify, I’m for banning the stuff. But I think the dangers of the finished pans might be overstated.

I hate the greedy cynical corporations behind LLMs, and I hate the hype bubble, and I hate my stupid bosses and their AI FOMO. But I don’t hate AI. It’s a broad concept much bigger than chat bots. Hurricane modeling AI is damned good, for one example.
