I tried setting up Jellyfin a while ago, but ran into a lot of difficulties with TV show matching. Plex is a lot better at grabbing a pack of loosely organized files and understanding episode structure without renaming or moving files, which is great for continuing to seed files that are in the library.

I haven’t seen anyone discuss this, so maybe I’m doing something wrong? If not, this is the one major blocker that I have before rolling it out Jellyfin as an alternative to the people I’ve shared my plex server with.

No. The OS license comes with the hardware that is bought. If your hardware supports the OS, you get the updates for free. There is no subscription needed to keep a Mac up to date.

I believe one way it gets around at least one of the kraken sources is by always having either your vessel or your point of view at the center of the “universe”, and having everything else move around that. I knew about Phase II, and that elements of it were merged into TMP and TNG, but I only remembered the triangular Enterprise concept that was later the basis of Discovery.
