Arch saves many previous packages in .cache and to clean them use pacman -Sc . Just properly test current running system before cleaning it.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What's the experience for using AMD GPUs for **COMPUTE** on GNU/Linux?
3·3 months agoWorked for me on Ubuntu. The instructions from amd is only tailored for one distribution. I think the easiest way to use it is trough docker. I don’t want proprietary drivers conflict for my gaming.
I just avoid gtk. And avoided scaling since I don’t buy monitors with to high resolution for my eyes.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•Steam Deck tweaked to fix delays with the screen-off downloads, and other Desktop Linux fixes recently
1·3 months agoWondering if I should submit a rfc so you can dubletap power button to turn of screen on all the non-deck devices. Since this feature is not coming to my ally. I prefer to manually download updates so it is not often I would use it.
Funny that fortnite actually started as the same concept, I think this could be cool for the survival gamers.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•spend hours ricing my desktop and decided I hated it at the end, and ended up wiping my entire OS
2·4 months agoA plasma a icon pack works wonders for my eyes. A title bar change if I am feeling like going wild. Dark mode theme pefered.Only ‘ricing’ I always do is a few keybinds to not go insane, and then remove hot corners before I try to move a program between 2 screens. Standard has been pretty good since that single click files feature was changed.

Games@sh.itjust.works•Microsoft is about to launch free Xbox Cloud Gaming with adsEnglish
1·4 months agoYour desktop can be the your service. With sunshine/moonlight locally. With wireguard, openvpn or proxy service to do it from anywhere. 900p60 xbox streams is a little to low quality. Especially for modern games like starfield that is probably 400p upscale. Cool that you can use mouse + kb in some games tho. With price hike I hope the atleast improve their service. Run a game on a series x in 120fps or something. Knowing Microsoft they probably won’t improve.

6·5 months agoHmm, I replaced the os with cachyos. And since my rog ally can’t play aaa mp shooters, there is no way I go back to windows. Would be interesting with a video demonstration.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Noone told me about systemctl suspend. I had to accidently learn about it from the arch pages. My battery is happy now, and you all will never be forgiven for your silence. That is all.
8·5 months agoYou can echo ‘mem’ > /sys/power/state as root to suspend. Or echo sleep into the file for hibernate.
Retroarch keeping the core anyway, probably not the best ps1 core even if it dissappear.
I use cachyos and aurora, if any Ubuntu user wants the laugh at me be my guest. 😀
On amd gpu+cpu fastboot off. I have it working on 3 pc’s like this. Asus mostly.
Use steam, setup a desktop profile in settings while in desktop. https://docs.bazzite.gg/Handheld_and_HTPC_edition/Handheld_Wiki/ search for desktop controls.
While microsoft has admitted to bugs causing exactly this scenario. I personally have a stabe 6 months with dual-boot. And only updating cachos once a month or every two weeks has been fine. The server and rog ally exclusively runs linux.
I did a few times on bazzite. But it’s now aurora. Haven’t had anything I was missing. Was also exporting a few things from arch in distrobox. Was more of a experiment then a necessity.
I just use the flatpak on arch, can’t be bothered to have a link to a deb or do a system update when discord wants a update.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•VacuumTube is the best way to watch YouTube on Steam Deck, SteamOS
5·8 months agoHmm. There was this picture in picture decky plug-in that you can watch any website video in. While gaming in game-mode. Something like that for local video’s would be nice.
It is 90% arch, except for the few packages it has in it’s own repository. I have it on two pc’s and I have used arch for years I can not say it’s any different from a stability perspective. I almost never have issues on arch but also I wouldn’t recommend cachyos to anyone who had issues with arch. Couse I definitely had to remove custom packages just to fix dependency issues etc.
Having broken lts-kernel and broken 6.15. At the same time. But the zen kernel saved me. So I guess if it was 3 broken kernels at the same time I would switch distro, haha. Lts was broken amdgpu kernel module, worse then sleep issue for mainline.
Tried it in beta, had to use PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 %command% when I released that the mouse didn’t stick into the game. Was just one game with that issue. Only proton-em and cachy-proton ship the wayland patches for that to work.
