OK dad, I’ve been wihtout a lawnwower most of the summer. I want to take one last swipe at the acre with the push mower and then use the lawn sweep to clean it up. If I take the bag off the push mower what kind of trouble do you think I’ll find if I try to chop up the very long 1’+ bent over grass and the leaves on top of it?

Okay, so if you are putting a lawn mower away for the winter, you should check the oil, rebalance and sharpen the blade, and at least rinse off all the dead grass and dirt after the engine has cooled down.

Attacking long grass with a push mower works just fine. Take the bag off and expect it to shoot crap out of the exit chute including sticks and gravel so don’t mow that way near kids or fragile glassware. If you have a modern mower with a spring-loaded exit chute then you’ll need to prop that open with a stick

Mow in a circle with the opening toward the outside cuz the mower is not going to chew through 1’ grass plus a pile of chopped stuff.

1’ tall grass may or may not go through the mower. Raise the mower to its highest height setting and If it can’t hack it then lift up the front by pushing the handle down and trundle along that way on two wheels for your first pass. Watch out for cats and turtles.

Good luck and don’t lose any fingers
