I just finished Rue Valley and I’m curious to see how other games handle time loops.
Outer Wilds
If I ever have completed amnesia, the existence of this game would probably be the only silver lining.
I haven’t found anything that comes close to the experience and it is completely impossible to play it again with the same nativity and wonder.
Huh, I’ve heard a lot of praise for Outer Wilds but no one’s ever mentioned it’s a time loop.
because the outer wilds community is extremely strict about spoilers and everything about the game is a spoiler.
go play it, don’t read anything else about it.
I think the time loop aspect can be forgiven, it’s explained in the first 10 mins
depending on how thourough you are with the intro it can take almost two hours.
For sure, for sure. But if you don’t know it’s a time loop, then after 30 minutes or so you get thrown a hell of a curveball! And we love that!
Yeah I had no idea when I first played. Doop dee dooped around, and then I was like OMGWTF IS HAPPENING.
Man I wish I could replay that game with no knowledge… More than any other.
Outer Wilds, for fucking sure.
Deathloop, Minit, The Forgotten City
If I had to name just one: Deathloop. But I’ve got a weakspot for Arkane Studios games (RIP).
Majora’s Mask
I’m currently doing a playthrough as I never finished it back on the day and now I know why. There’s just no way you would think of every solution to every required puzzle on your own.
Damn, Gnosia looks right up my street, thanks.
I’ve actually played the start of Stars and Time, but I spent most of my time trying to change the font as I hated the default one and never came back to it after I worked out how. I’ll push it to the top of my ‘play next’ pile (well, after Outer Wilds given what others here have said).
In stars and time was so insanely good i wish literally any of my friends had played it so i could actually talk about this shit
The Forgotten city, for sure. Really hit a sweet spot of both uncovering the mystery and also interacting with other characters in new and different ways each loop.
Outer wilds is also right up there, but thw time loop was IMO, less impactful than the rest of the gameplay.
Chronoquartz, maybe? It’s mainly a puzzle story game. It’s quite good.
Cobalt Core! Cute roguelite deck builder game with spaceships
Alan Wake 2 (kinda).
