    I wonder if the black market for ciggies magically rose by the same amount?

      I’ve noticed a lot of colleagues at work that smoke, are now using vapes.

      Might be another explanation of lost revenue, including black market dealings.

      i am 100% super confused why the gov isn’t lowering taxes on those things to capture more of the blackmarket which has expanded massively

      Makes 0 sense to me

        Yeah me too. I can only think that they use it as a proxy to show how the number of smokers is decreasing and how great a job they are doing in reducing smoking?

        When everyone knows that smokers are just getting their smokes via other means…

        Instead, the stupid government raises the tax to be higher to make up for the shortfall. Which just drives more people into the arms of the black market. Rinse and repeat.
