Loureiro was the director of MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center and a professor in both the Nuclear Science and Engineering and Physics departments

Damn. I was expecting some politically charged subject, not this. This is the department that spun off Commonwealth Fusion Systems, IMO the startup closest to commercially-viable world-saving fusion.

Nothing about killer or investigation except “ongoing”

So, someone whose work threatens the oil industry was assassinated? Sounds about right to me. Energy is absolutely political, just on a bigger scale

TBH if that was the case I would think the CEO of the fusion company would have gotten it not some academic he spun off from years ago

I dunno, Israel/US have been doing this type of thing to nuclear engineers and the such for the years (particularly in Iran).

For one, do separate nuclear fusion from fission. Both are nuclear the way Trump and Carter are both US Presidents.

Anyway, Bayesian reasoning. My priors are the Western nuclear scientists of all stripes have not been regularly killed over the last 20 years; Iranian fission scientists have been. Iran doesn’t have a significant fusion/plasma research program in the first place.
