MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries – Shadow of Kerensky Game update and Hotfix 1 preview.
Greetings Mercenaries,
We’re thrilled with the reception to MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries - Shadow of Kerensky! The team has been watching your content, reading your posts, and taking notes. We’re keeping a close eye on your feedback (including AI weapon usage behavior) as we plan future updates.
In the short term our first hotfix is now in QA, and we wanted to share a preview of what’s coming. (notes below) Alongside this, we have prepared the Full Shadow of Kerensky Game update notes to cover the additional fixes and changes that shipped with the DLC. (notes below)
And if you missed the news, Japanese language support is also on the way in an upcoming patch.
Thanks for playing,
The MechWarrior 5: Mercs Team
Holy batflaps this game needs a lot of storage!!! I have some mods installed (YAML stuff, biomes, etc.) And it’s at 144 GB. I had to make space by removing some other games and cleaning house on the hard drive just to update it.
I love this game, but it is going to feel like Christmas when I finish it and uninstall it to make space.
FYI you can shave off some space using lossless compression using a tool like CompactGUI (which hooks into Windows’ modern lossless compression - assuming you’re on Windows). It roughly halves the MW5 disk space for me - though I only have small/light mods so I’m at ~86.3 GB compressed down to 47.6 GB using the lightest of the four compression options (XPRESS 4K).
Windows will decompress on-the-fly as needed (it’s transparent to you as the user) and the overhead for doing so is small enough that the slightly improved I/O basically cancels out the small CPU overhead of doing decompression. The biggest downside is that when compressed files are updated, they get decompressed. CompactGUI has a feature that “watches” for changes and re-compresses folders that change, but I’ve never personally used it so I can’t comment on how well that particular feature works.
Thanks for the detailed description. I’m on linux (bazzite) though, and my PC is a little on the older side, AND I have no dedicated GPU. I’m already pushing the CPU to the limit just to get a good FPS. This game is basically the upper limit of what I can run, so I’m not going to do anything that would add tasks to the CPU.
I’m pretty sure we can even on RNDA3 cards, force FSR 4 with some commands since 10-4:
Sorry you don’t gave a dGPU :(
Thanks to you too. But my PC is a laptop, so I’m not going to be doing any upgrades. I knew what I was doing. Portability is important to me, as is a touchscreen for drawing. I’m usually playing games like pillars eternity, caves of qud, and such. Nothing that needs powerful hardware.
Haha, well in several ways it is not applicable to you at all then! Hopefully someone else might find it helpful :P
There’s some good stuff here, though it would’ve been great if they didn’t wait for a DLC drop to do some of the QoL changes / bug fixes etc.
