Hi software engineer in ML space here,
Intro
I am trying out Zed, want to get some of the benefits of “Burn Mode” but for BYOK, because only Claude is currently supported and my usage of these tools.
Wondering if anybody found a hack to get the same or similar results.
Or tell me how to find patches the fastest.
Constraints &
Zed service feels too slow and limited in options, I use OpenRouter which has Groq and Cerebras.
The proprietary models are less useful for me also “jack of all trades; master of none” captions it, find readily available finetunes on HuggingFace do better.
I am very impatient and little frugal when it comes to software haha. 😁
Current Efforts
Currently PR & Forks page isn’t jumping out with anything to me, Google and Kagi search didn’t find anything.
Am on a GNU+Linux distro.
Use Case
Boilerplate and Semantic Search/Contextual Docs via MCP.
Conclusion
I like Zed being conservative on resources compared to similar offerings, generally nice UX, however due to flaw that it’s tethering with SaSS on some features, i fallback to NeoVim as my trusty choice.
May seem pedantic, but I see better results for tool calling, efficient for semantic search.
If push comes to shove in my workflow, I might feel the need to reimplement it as a fallback, Qwen tool calling capabilitity potential.
P.S: Added the GNU image because it demanded I put one, that’s the philosophy I am aiming for eventually in the ML space, am FSF associate.
