All the animations on this comm have been a lot of fun, but this is the first time I’ve seen one that was actually surreal and not just trippy.
It is unfortunate that lemmy and piefed only show the handle of the community, because the actual name is “Anything Surreal and Abstract”. Glad to hear you enjoy the content tho.
Good to know. I’m almost 40 and one of the things I’ve noticed over the course of my life is that people want to put emphasis on the concepts they’re talking about so that the person they’re describing something to understands how they feel about it. So people use strong words which evoke their emotions so that the listener can feel it too. People have always done this, but it’s become more pronounced over time.
This can backfire a bit because people will always use the strongest words to get their emotions across, which has the side effect of having those words lose their meaning. Surreal and abstract are two entirely different concepts, especially when referencing art. My art professors are probably highly annoyed by this but I’ll do my best to adapt.
I probably could have chosen a better name, but I think “weird stuff that I find cool” wouldn’t work, so you’re absolutely right that it is a very loose description. I unfortunately cannot change the handle anymore and I didn’t know of the “name problem” before. I hope you understand. Thank you.
There’s no need to change the name, and I’m glad you made this community. It’s a lot of fun. Not everyone went to art school, so there are probably a lot fewer people like me seeing this than there are people who get exactly what they need to out of the name.
