At my first job that literally employed 10 people, the internal IT manager left for a better job. He had been working for them for 5 years and did all sorts of things that weren’t in his job description much like all of us since there were, you know, 10 of us. I remember them complaining about not getting any applications and also asking me in the marketing department about how to entice new candidates. My coworker and I looked at the job posting which required 10 years of experience for entry level pay and both suggested that they either need to pay more or reduce the experience required. Their excuse for not doing so basically amounted to that they were paying the previous guy this amount so surely they don’t need to pay more. Except… He left? Because of money most likely? It baffled me how they just couldn’t connect the dots there.
My first job was about 200 people but there was a satellite office with 3 people. Similar story, someone left and they tried to replace him for the same salary. The job ad was for project manager/lead dev/office manager/customer support and user training.
They actually hired someone who latest 6 weeks
lol that’s one odd combination of roles.
What I’m reading from the role combination is that he made apps, gave updates to managers, taught people how to use the apps, helped them when they had issues, and was the one that ordered alcohol for the office after drinking it all due to the previous.
Frustrated that the 20 year you are considering to hire doesn’t have ten years experience.

This was exactly what I was thinking of, and I’d bet it is neither the first nor the last time something like that will happen.
It’s a fake job posting that exists to discourage people, and make them more pliable.
On paper, I’ve got 20+ years of C++ experience.
In practice, it’s always just connecting some thing to another thing and you’ll be lucky if I outperform ChatGPT.
I am apparently unhirable as an IT manager because I only have 8 years of experience and Sec+, and not 15 years and scrum and agile certs
But when you do finally have that experience you get to deal with age discrimination, instead.
