I have painted one mech in ten years. I got an airbrush kit and some paints for christmas but I鈥檓 too paralyzed by the challenge of sorting my minis into historically-accurate units over various time periods.
My brothers a bit like that he鈥檚 currently getting dragons so he can be as legit as he can. I have this as a vlan invasion army to play with and my inner mercs rhat I can use for anything if I keep them using older inner mechs. Truth is you just got to do something anything start with biggest colours and get smaller. Base shade highlight keep it simple.
