So we haven't lived through the puberty stage yet, but I've spent a long time doing research and have helped my son do a full social transition. We are trying to officially change his gender and name, but that requires going through a tribunal for us. It sounds like you've got the most important part, just be supportive and accepting. The next important part is to see professional in your area. They will guide you through the process, let you know what services you need to seek out and what the path is for full transition and what issues you might face in your area. I do also think it's worth seriously questioning where this is coming from and making sure this is a legitimate finding of identity and not from some underlying trauma/anxiety that's being confused for gender dysphoria. The rare cases of de-transitioning appear to mostly be from girls going through puberty and having unwanted attention or sexual assault from boys/men that makes them feel uncomfortable in their body. It's easy to see how this kind of thing could lead them to think they have gender dysphoria, when they don't. Especially considering that this is a phase where everyone starts to think more about their identity and sexuality. Having said that, de-transitioning is rare, so this is mostly just a safety check before starting anything that may have permanent consequences and any good professional should help with that. by ShrimpCurler@lemmy.dbzer0.com reason: Well intentioned, but still gatekeeping of trans identity, which is not allowed in this space
