PowerSync is a product of JourneyApps.
JourneyApps is headquartered in Denver, Colorado and has a globally distributed team. The company has been in business for more than a decade.

The first software product created by JourneyApps is the JourneyApps Platform, a rapid app development platform. The PowerSync engine was first created as a component of the JourneyApps Platform, enabling apps to sync data between a cloud database and client-side SQLite database for uninterrupted online/offline use of apps.

In 2022, JourneyApps spun off the PowerSync engine into the standalone PowerSync product (consisting of a cloud service and set of SDKs) allowing the creation of offline-first/local-first apps that sync data from backend databases to client-side SQLite databases. The standalone PowerSync product is designed to be database-agnostic on the server-side, and platform-agnostic on the client-side.

PowerSync therefore has a long history and track record: The original version of the PowerSync engine in the JourneyApps Platform has been used for years in production by a number of Fortune 500 customers in industries such as energy, manufacturing, and mining. These customers typically have a need to sync a high volume of relational data to users in harsh field conditions, such as remote locations where users are frequently offline. Usage in these kinds of demanding environments has led us to battle-harden the PowerSync protocol and architecture over the years, and these customers continue to rely on the PowerSync engine for critical daily business operations. The standalone version of PowerSync builds on that strong foundation.
