Lmao, it’s less about the deception and more about where it led to 😂

Idk if you’ve just been under a rock and never noticed (which is admittedly possible, because Reddit just has so many people it’s easier to never notice them) or are just being intentionally deceptive. But tankies are absolutely on Reddit, they have multiple subreddits there. Hell, Lemmy started because dessalines got perma banned from Reddit because of their tankie crap and literally did the bender meme
I have personally been asked about the tankies on Lemmy and others have seen it too, it absolutely does come up
listen here, you little shit
For just one person limited use like that, i’d just use a VPN for whenever you’re away from home.
But you could learn a bit about hardening and expose it anyways if you want, I personally just want to be able to access my stuff from anywhere so I spend a decent amount of time hardening.
It’s not too hard, you really just need a certain baseline to defend against script kiddies and bot mass scanners. Unless you’re a business or a high value target or something that’ll attract the skills of “real” hackers

::: spoiler Why am I cross-posting .ml content? >
I cross-post from .ml to the nearest relevant non-.ml comm to reduce the influence of .ml comms and indirectly, the instance as a whole, to make it an easier decision for other instance admins to defederate because one key reason I identified that admins don’t want to defederate is because .ml still has some very large comms and some niche comms.
Some highlights from the link:
“Don’t worry guys, the Uyghur Genocide was REALLY just birth control! ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/30580167
“See! nobody died IN Tiananmen Square, just AROUND it, so it doesn’t count!!” ~ Davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/30673342
.ml admin, Nutomics continued transphobia https://lemmy.world/post/29222558 The original transphobic Comment from Nutomic: https://lemmy.world/post/18236068
“NK is actually good and anything counter to that is Western propaganda!” ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/31595035
General negative sentiment to other instances who haven’t “seen the way” yet ~davel, .ml admin https://lemmy.world/post/27426510
“If you don’t support Russia then you just don’t understand geopolitics” ~dessalines, .ml admin, dev https://lemmy.world/post/27352415
And so so much documentation on clear heavy handed censorship and bias also on the link. So much I can’t even put them all here because this comment would be really long.
I believe the behavior of its admins (the main admins are Lemmy devs) does harm to the overall growth of the Lemmy-verse and maybe even the Thrediverse (since Lemmy kinda kicked off the Thrediverse) because of its association with the devs of Lemmy and their insistence to use .ml as their personal political platform to spread harmful propaganda
On the outside, bringing up Lemmy frequently leads to comments like “Lemmy? Isn’t that the place with a bunch of tankies?” Or “Tried Lemmy, but found it full of pro Russia crap so I left”. The best way forward from that I see is to either widely defederate from .ml like the rest of the Triad, or pressure them to put a fair and unbiased as possible admin team. :::

Lolol I just needed that yesterday
Programmer Humor@programming.dev
I kind of love it though it’s like tje fine wine of the internet getting worse and worse yet better and better with time.
Each repost adds another layer of artifact and grit until you can barely make out what the original even meant. It’s been screenshotted and cropped and saved and shared, on Facebook and Reddit and Xitter who cared? From phone to phone and site to site the pixels crumble day and night!
The colors fade, the text grows blurry, reposted fast, reposted hurry! Through Discord servers, Instagram feeds and Fedi-instance’s it spreads like mold, like digital weeds! One hundred times! One thousand more! The quality drops right through the floor! And yet we laugh and yet we share this crusty meme beyond repair!
So let it crumble, let it fray, this meme will live another day. For in its crust we find the truth, the internet’s eternal youth!

That’s one problem it solves, but NPM is really just a frontend for Nginx Reverse Proxy.
And a reverse proxy is one of the basic security steps you need to take when exposing something to the open Internet. You want everything forwarded through it and spend most of your time hardening it and the server it’s running on (and it should be the only thing running on that server, all other services should be running elsewhere, ideally)

Oh dam I almost forgot to post it to !DeFlock@sh.itjust.works lolol
This is a conflation of “AI” and shitty AI companies*. The AI *technology*, which *can be fully open source, is what’s here to stay and it is a useful tool. Not the end all be all by any means, but, just like a drill or hammer it has its uses. And just like a drill or hammer, you can use it for improper use but get a less optimal result
Boycotting the tech itself, to include full open source and selfhosted AI is what’s not going to work, but the shitty companies probably will come and go.
The real solution is to roll up the sleeves and built an a version of this technology that’s open, transparent, and community driven.
No, the solution is to educate the general populace about the extreme harms of AI on our economy and our environment and our sovereignty and our education and to show them that we’re getting absolutely nothing in exchange except for lining the pockets of CEOs and twist the arm of the gov to get involved in some sort of regulation…
Both of these things can happen, AI can be harmful. Any tool can be harmful and for dangerous ones we do educate people, to varying degrees depending on the tool. And just like any tool, it has its restrictions AND promote open and transparent systems over the ones that do line CEO pockets
Destroy education any way possible

A little off topic, but I noticed you’re new and have been posting to the writing .ml comm in addition to the other comms.
So, a lot of us have been boycotting the .ml instance in one way or another covered in the Megathread here https://lemmy.world/post/29072279 so wanted to see if you’d join
If you’d like another writing comm to post to !writing@slrpnk.net is another one that could use good contributions to
I’m just waiting for BBS2 to get going on it, I sadly was a tad too young to get in on its prime, but maybe I can catch the train this time lmao

A 0-click exploit chain for the Pixel 9 Part 1: Decoding Dolby - Project Zero (projectzero.google)
Over the past few years, several AI-powered features have been added to mobile phones that allow users to better search and understand their messages. One effect of this change is increased 0-click attack surface, as efficient analysis often requires message media to be decoded before the message is opened by the user. One such feature is audio transcription. Incoming SMS and RCS audio attachments received by Google Messages are now automatically decoded with no user interaction. As a result, audio decoders are now in the 0-click attack surface of most Android phones.
