I hadn't realized Piefed has themes until today. They are amazing, thank you!

Today I was just thinking about how PieFed (and the fediverse in general) reminds me of an earlier internet that I used to like, where “social media” was just phpBB forums running on old computers in peoples’ basements. And I thought, “I just wish PieFed looked a little different to reflect that. Too bad there aren’t any themes for it.”

SHIIIIIIIIT, I had just never looked in the settings menu before. I’m using Irix 1998 now and freaking love it.

Here is how to make a new theme - https://join.piefed.social/2024/02/07/changing-piefeds-appearance-with-themes/

If that is too hardcore, check out the css snippets that squirrel linked to.

Might be slightly outdated? HPT Mint (alt) isn’t even on that. It’s what I use.

And in the spirit of the earlier internet, you can add your own CSS to customize the theme. There are some snippets at !piefed_css@piefed.social.

I’ve just changed the basic colors on mine, but possibilities are endless.

Yep, this! I kept getting warnings about languages because I post in a few different ones - one well-researched rule and they’re gone.

Themes are great indeed!

tbf, phpBB and similar BB software also has themes. But PieFed’s are certainly nicer.

WAIT WHAT I WAS JUST THINKING THAT DHSJFM

Is there a MySpace theme with twinkling stars and Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby unconsensually playing at max volume?

Not yet, but maybe someday! With communities being able to set what their top 8 communities are, and a default song that plays for each community, and custom cursors, and… OK maybe I’m actually liking this idea.

Absolutely love the themes included in Piefed!
