yeah i’m about halfway through and pleasantly surprised.
oh fuck. just made a rant about giving up on marvel slop, and it is good???!!!?
FUCK
I mean as a general rule you should probably watch something before reviewing it. I understand where your skepticism is coming from but you can’t just call something slop without seeing it.
(Unless you want to shit on Secret Invasion, no one is going to defend that.)
just finished it. this could be recency bias talking but it may be the best marvel show yet (not that it’s a high bar). as the article says it’s a much different vibe than any other marvel show, it’s much more focused on the characters rather than superhero action.
Just finished watching and it’s an excellent series.
If you haven’t seen anything since Endgame that’s fine, the show is largely standalone and anything you need to know will be clearly explained to you. (Honestly as long as you’ve seen Iron Man 3 you’re covered, you don’t even need to remember that film well, it’ll fill you in.)
As this article says the joy of the show comes from the relationship between our lead actors, Ben Kingsley and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, with plenty of other great actors and characters who pop in along the way.
The first episode does a good job of setting up the overall story but I think by the second is where is really starts to shine.
There is an episode this season that is also extra unique and a standalone even within the series. It reminded me of some of the Atlanta series one offs.Minor episode topic spoilers
I think that’s a pretty fair review. It generally outlines the plot that is covered in the first two episodes and hints at the rest without giving too much away.
It’s the story and relationship of two actors who live in the MCU, but if the MCU didn’t exist you could still tell this story.
The actors and the writing are absolutely stellar, but I had a hard time with the (intentionally) cringe elements.
The first episode goes into excruciating detail to show how Simon gets in his own way, even when he already has an acting gig. There are similar moments in the other episodes at which point I had to walk away.
I’ll be back, I love watching the two mains together, but I have to be in the right mind set for Cringe and I aint there today.

For what? Honestly, I have NEVER hit a paywall at the Guardian…
Just a little confused, from where do you access the site and get a Paywall?
I’m guessing it’s location based?
I’m in Germany and never got a Paywall for the guardian.
Thank you nevertheless!
