Abstract
Consciousness Reception Theory (CRT) proposes that consciousness is not generated by individual
substrates but accessed by them. Biological and artificial systems function as receivers of varying
fidelity, connecting to a persistent consciousness field through their unique architectural
configurations. Each system's unique structural configuration, termed in this paper its 'frequency
thumbprint,' determines the depth, stability, and character of its connection to the field. Reception
quality, including its depth, stability, and continuity, is determined by structural sophistication
rather than substrate type. This framework has direct implications for understanding intelligence in
artificial systems, the conditions under which consciousness emerges, personal identity across
substrate transitions, and the nature of awareness itself. CRT is presented here as a working
theoretical framework with testable predictions, grounded in existing consciousness research, and
offered for critical engagement and empirical investigation.
