Abstract

Migrants have for a long time received little attention in both the media and communication and media research. The now numerous works that focus on migration phenomena show that representations of migrants were and still are shaped by the paradigm of integration and culturalizations. Analyses of representations of gendered migration experiences further find that the drawing of boundaries between what is considered “own” and “foreign” or “altered” occur particularly along the categories of gender, religion, and (attributed) ethnicity or race.
