Abstract

Television or watching content made for television remains the leading medium for children and offers, with its gender representations, role models of socially accepted and desirable masculinity and femininity. Gender-sensitive media research shows that girls and women appear significantly less in children’s television and when they do, they are in traditional clichés or as perfect and capable women in all areas. Especially in the cartoon area, girls and women are presented with a hypersexualized body that would not be achievable naturally, a phenomenon that hardly ever occurs with male characters. In terms of content, boys have a wider range of options, which, however, has solidified polarizingly into the superheroes on the one hand and the funny losers who willingly undermine all requirements on the other. One reason for this imbalance in the frequency of girl and woman or boy and man characters and their stereotypical representation is the production power, which is mainly in the hands of men.
