  • Amen to that. Even if your computers will run it, provide the device. I’m not installing shit on my home computers.

My job has suggested it to me. I say “you know how all these computers run Windows?” They nod. “Mine doesn’t. It’s a Mac.” That usually shuts them up. Never mind that most of what we run will, in fact, run on a Mac, and there’s very little a shitty Wintel box mass produced for the enterprise can do that my Mac can’t do. I mean, I can run Deus Ex natively on the work computer, if I wanna catch hell for it. (But it would be fucking hilarious, especially if I’m at the part where JC Denton hands in his “resignation.”)

  • Those who wage war have never needed to feel reprisals from it. They hide in their ivory towers and send your kids to die for their oil or whatever it is or has been throughout history (before that, I think land).

Imagine if they had to. If they had to lead the charge. Imagine how much war we would have if those who would choose to wage it had to put themselves on the front line. And/or their families. And/or the people they owe money and favours to. Would they be so quick to pick up a gun and fire shots themselves? I think we would live in a peaceful world (albeit maybe one with a lot of shit talking) if our leaders had to fight.

  • Why would you post the community here, and then 4 hours later, you haven’t posted anything there? I’m just curious.

Subbed immediately, and I’ll contribute, but would like to see others do the same.

I do have one question though: Can songs have any English? Because a lot of Japanese music (which is what I know) has English parts. I don’t mean stuff like newer ONE OK ROCK where the whole song is English but two lines are Japanese, though I do mean stuff like older ONE OK ROCK where the whole song is Japanese but the chorus might be in English, or a couple lines.

  • I think you should clarify who Max is and what the status/rules of your relationship is. It seems from the comments that you’re in a poly relationship with a young man (since you used pronoun “him”) as well as a young woman, and it sounds like the young woman is okay with you favouring the young man at times for whatever reason. In that case, NTA. Depression is a bitch of a beast and if one person can do more for it than another, you’re NTA for taking care of yourself. But if you’re in a poly relationship, make it up to the young lady in another way.

It sounds like everybody’s fine but your depression is making it seem like a bigger deal than it is, and you should just check in with everyone (involved) when you’re better, make sure you’re all on the same page. Apologies if I’ve misread the situation.

  • I mean, Animal Crossing did this without either VR or AI. And Nintendo’s been making them since, what, the GameCube? Even if you look at the current version, while it was just updated this year with the hotel, it originally came out in 2020, before the AI boom. You get on your Switch, boot into the game, and everyone talks to you, but they’re aware of how long it’s been since you last logged in. So for me, snow was still on the ground when I played last, and I know snow starts melting on or around February 22, because that’s how it’s been since 2020. So I know my villagers are going to give me some shit for being away for a few weeks. (I blame Mass Effect 4.)

I find Animal Crossing more satisfying than Facebook, which I do not use, but it seems to be the same kind of thing but with real people. It’s also a wild zoo of different kinds of animals and… yeah I’m gonna stop there.

So I think as AI advances and people are more and more okay with online or digital interaction, I think it’s entirely possible to have a VR/AI partner. I’m actually surprised there aren’t fully fleshed out products like that now. Like an Alexa that treats you like a partner and talks to you every day (and talks dirty to you in the evening). There are probably services online that can do it — didn’t Grok have a “spicy mode” that could do this? — but I wouldn’t expect it to be cheap.

  • Oh yeah, for sure. I haven’t heard about that, but I haven’t been everywhere. ;) The funny thing is, we get emails about Copilot, like they don’t know we can’t even use it. I think they just don’t care — or they’re covering their arses, and I guess work from home applies.

Whenever they ask me about doing stuff at home, I tell them I don’t have a PC. They say I’m bullshitting because they know I’m a nerd. I say I have a Mac. Which is technically a PC but it doesn’t run the same software. Then I make up shit about it being better. It’s not. I mean, Apple Intelligence is the derpy AI that Apple just has to say they have one, but I mean, your computer is mostly what you do with it and trust me, I can do all the shit we do at work, on my Mac. I just act like I can’t because they don’t know the difference.

I’d almost love it if my employer paid for AI and wanted us to use it. I wouldn’t do it. At least I wouldn’t go out of my way to do it. I don’t like Microslop, but I happily use Windows and Word and Outlook and sometimes Excel at work because I like having my bills paid. So if my job required AI, I would use it. Fortunately, I haven’t had to make that choice yet.

  • Of those, or those are yours?

I liked a lot of them to a point, then I stopped liking them. Others I haven’t seen.

I’d recommend Revenge to anyone. ABC (US Disney-owned TV network) soap opera-stylised drama based very loosely on The Count of Monte Cristo. A rich woman and her husband have another rich man set up for a crime he didn’t do and his five year old daughter is traumatised by the arrest (they show this every episode, or just about) and she grows up to be a rich woman no one recognises (and she uses a new name) and she undoes them and their allies one by one. It’s super satisfying until you realise none of them are really great people. Except maybe for the hacker/nerdy dude. He’s cool. But honestly, it’s a really good show. Give it one episode, that’s representative of the first three seasons. The final season is a bit different, but still good (and worth it for when she reveals who she really is… no, they never figure it out until she announces it on live TV).

  • I actually do have a Microslop account, but I have no use for it. Except on my Xbox, now that I think about it. So I do sign into it several times a week, because Mass Effect is love, Mass Effect is life, etc… but my Mac has no use for it and I’m not connecting my work PC to any personal account. I see everyone on Facebook and Instagram and X up there (I’ve even seen people looking at adult content, though they may have been looking at an ad)… if I were to get on Lemmy/Fediverse up there, it wouldn’t be through any account associated with my home accounts. And I wouldn’t even look at a community called “Fuck AI” at work (because of the expletive, not because I don’t agree with the concept; I absolutely do).

  • If you do a 100% run, it’s probably a bit more than half. If you just bum rush the story, the Mako stuff might be around 30%? But you can’t say it’s copied and pasted, all the story worlds are individual. I think there were 3 of them you had to do, then there was the one with the beaches, and then after that the jungle planet, so, five? But only the lava planet had significant Mako parts. The rest were a mix of on-foot, Mako, shooting, and conversations.

The real magic with ME1 was the stuff that carried over to 2 and 3. ME2 was better in every way.
