By default, the first option in the drop-down list of Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express will be the path to the .dbx file Outlook Express uses to store the current user's messages. Other paths in the list are previously used paths to those folders on the hard drive where *.dbx files were detected. If you do not know the path to the dbx file you are interested in, use the internal dbx file search features of Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express. The dbx file search window of Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express is similar to that in Windows Explorer. To activate the search, click the Search .dbx files button view dbx file. Select where to search in the left panel of the program (local disk, floppy disk, CD or DVD). Click the Search Now button to start searching. When the search is over, select the dbx file you are interested in in the right panel of the program and click the OK button. The path will be added to the Source Folder Path field in the Recovery Wizard of Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express. After you specify the path to the .dbx file you want to recover, you can move on to the next recovery step by clicking the Next button.

2. Selecting the .dbx file

In the second recovery step, you select the .dbx file containing messages you want to recover. Specify which file Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express should process. After that move on to the third recovery step (the Next button).

5. Saving messages extracted from the corrupted .dbx file

The final step in recovering messages from the corrupted *.dbx file is saving messages to the disk. Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express offers you the following options:

  • Save all selected messages
  • Save only the current message
  • Save all recovered messages

To create a list of messages to be saved, select the checkboxes next to each message you want to save to the disk.

Choose one of the saving methods. Click the button corresponding to this option (Save Checked, Save Current and Save All respectively) to save messages to the disk as *.eml files (RFC822 standard).

Messages are saved to the disk under the names made out of message subjects, excluding special characters. Numbers in brackets [] are added to file names for message with the same subjects. For example, message[1].eml is the first file with this name, message[2].eml is the second file and so on.

All messages saved to the disk can be viewed in Outlook Express and, if necessary, easily copied or moved to Outlook Express folders or any other mail client supporting the *.eml message extension.

After messages are saved, Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express will display statistics on the processed *.dbx files, the number of recovered and saved messages.

The recovery of message from the corrupted *.dbx file with the Recovery Wizard of Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express is successfully finished.

Note:

it is possible to save message and view their bodies only in the registered version of Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express.

Only program to recover the .dbx files!
I couldnt open my .dbx files that I had archived. But this program recovered the files!

TANSERA 07-10-2018

It works, I recovered e-mails from 2 years ago which were lost due to OE crash.

Straightforward to use, does not require expertise. No need to even to open the OE program itself!

Ordering online instructions are somewhat confusing.

Great Product For Email REcovery

I have lost all emails in one of my folders in Outlook Express. Because that folder had reached 2GB. Outlook Express can;t read emails in a folder which is larger than 2GB.

I have tried 2 other programs first: Mail Navigator and Dbxtract. Both of them messed my attachments and formats of the email.

Then I've tried this tool. And It worked great. I've restored all my emails back and the attachments.

It saved over 200 emails with photo attachments for me!

I installed it on my old Win98 computer. It was able to find and then recover over 200 emails that had photo attachments. These were in a corrupted folder that had important messages dating back to 2005. The trial version confirmed the messages still existed, so I registered the program to begin the recovery steps. It was well worth the price.

LACSR 07-10-2018

The trial download verified that the emails were in fact still there and could be retrieved.

It would not actually save anything unless the paid version was purchased. That however is told upfront.

The paid version did work as advertised and did restore the emails, so I cannot fault the product as it did exactly what it claimed it could.

Open the program tell it where the files to be recovered are and it is done quickly and easily.

It recovered 1.6G emails from a damaged 2G inbox. I've followed their link and made purchase via PayPal. The registration code appeared in the web page immediately after payment. I have also received their email enclosing the registration code too.

It take 20 mintues to scan a 2G dbx. The emails then can be read but not saved. Have to restart the software After purchase and take 20 mintues to scan the dbx again.

Tried another freeware but can recover 80M from the 2G dbx only. OE recovery is worth the price. Some comments said can't receive registration code after payment but they in fact appear in the purchase web page and I can receive the email too.

Product wasted some minutes for restoring all corrupted items in OE.
