Writing a letter to this fuckin' guy is seriously their plan?

For four years, the inspector general for the Department of Homeland Security, appointed by former President Donald Trump, has criticized President Joe Biden’s administration for lax immigration enforcement. Now, a confidential watchdog report delivered to the White House on Wednesday is accusing the inspector general of abuse of authority and substantial misconduct — and it suggests the president fire him.

A panel of other inspectors general from across the federal government, after investigating DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari for years, has concluded that Biden should discipline him “up to and including removal.”

The panel’s conclusion and its suggestion that Cuffari be fired were described to POLITICO by a person granted anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the report.

Gotta disagree with this one, if a lawmaker or executive commits a crime they should be punished the same as everyone else. I absolutely think McIver is innocent of the bullshit charges against her here, but I also think there's a ton of Republicans currently holding office who need to be arrested and jailed until trials can sort them out.

Actually, eating less won't work for a lot of people and you could easily end up doing more harm to your health than the obesity is doing if you push it far enough

What you need to do is eat healthy and get regular physical activity to coax your body into metabolizing things like it should. Of course, healthy food and the space to exercise both cost money, so yeah - poverty is to social problems what boiling water is to generating energy.

"You will get down to your desired weight by your 92nd birthday" sounds like something that wouldn't work for a lot of people to me

gAlienLifeform ,
@gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world avatar

You can get fat eating healthy food too.

Hence why I said "eat healthy" not "eat healthy food"

It's calories in and calories out

Hence why I said "and get regular physical activity" to raise the second part of that equation

If you eat less than you consume you will lose weight. Eating less works for 100% of people.

Eating "less" could still be more than you're consuming if you don't have any physical activity, so, no, just eating less will not work for 100% of people

Avoiding my calls because verbal conversations make you anxious? Fair enough, I will spend an embarrassingly long time to write, re-read, delete, re-write, re-read several times, re-delete, re-write a third time by blending versions one and two, re-read and realize I didn't explain something, re-write and realize that something else is irrelevant, re-read and realize it wasn't irrelevant because two paragraphs later etc. until I have a message that can't possibly be misread, send it, and then agonize about writing something that was misread until I hear back from you while pathologically refreshing my inbox.

Saying you can't talk now but scheduling a time for me later? Totally fair, you have a whole ass job outside of my stupid problems, if they can wait I will wait and if they can't I'll go back to paragraph 1.

Avoiding my calls because you think I'm dumb but won't just tell me how I'm being dumb so I can try to make improvements? Congrats, my new work project is making your work life a living hell until you either quit or schedule a call with me where we can discuss preferred communication styles and how to demonstrate mutual respect.

According to my recollection, you accepted full responsibility and pledged to do better going forward. You also promised not to embezzle any of the company's money going forward, which was a weird thing to say unprompted.

I'm hearing that my summary won't be helpful, so I don't need to spend my time on this request, which certainly works for me. You are, of course, welcome to take any notes for yourself that you would find helpful, and I would be happy to review those if you would like.

Thanks for your time!

e; wait, in this scenario am I a supervisor giving you orders you have to follow or a coworker making a request for some information? I was assuming the second option, but yeah if I were your boss and had any ability to punish you for not following my orders I would absolutely put them in writing.

Additional coverage from Being me the News (arc)

A Bring Me The News reporter who was near the scene said an agent opened fire at a man outside Glam Doll Donuts at Nicollet Avenue and 26th Street at around 9 a.m.

Video from our reporter reveals that multiple shots were fired, with the agent believed to be just a few feet away from the man when he was struck, apparently in his chest.

The man was seen unconscious on the ground and responders were carrying out chest compressions.

Immediately after our reporter approached the scene, an agent was heard yelling for help and scissors to open the victim's shirt. Agents told our reporter that they had immediately called 911 for assistance.

New video uploaded to Reddit shows several federal agents struggling with a man outside Glam Doll, during which a shot is fired, followed by multiple more shots fired at the man as he lay on the ground.

Good to know what their deflection is going to be, I hope journalists press them on the fact that the ICE officers had their hands on this guy and were beating on him before they shot him. If that pistol is his and he did actually brandish it, it'd still be a strong case for self defense, and either way this is just objectively shit police work. How tf do you put hands on someone with multiple people and still end up in a situation where you're forced to shoot them?

Some updates from the live feed on this article,

    1113am

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a statement Saturday morning that her office is working alongside the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) to coordinate a state response to Saturday's shooting.

“The scene must be secured by local law enforcement for the collection and preservation of evidence,” Moriarty said. “We expect the federal government to allow the BCA to process the scene.”

    1125am

Federal agents are repeatedly tear-gassing a crowd at Nicollet Avenue and E. 27th Street, deploying the irritant each time residents reappear in the intersection.

Residents are calling agents "Nazis" and chanting that all immigrants are welcome in Minnesota. Meanwhile, several residents are frantically trying to move their parked cars away from the area

    1137

The shooting scene is tense on 26th Street in south Minneapolis with dumpsters being set on fire, while Minnesota state troopers have arrested at least a couple of protesters who crossed the police tape.

I wasn't able to find any snapshots of that removed text, but it seems super plausible because they apparently had a reporter who happened to be on the scene before and when things went down

A Bring Me The News reporter who was near the scene said an agent opened fire at a man outside Glam Doll Donuts at Nicollet Avenue and 26th Street at around 9 a.m.

I'm guessing they told him that at the barrel of a gun, interesting that the optics of them refusing that doctor who wanted to do lifesaving care on Renee apparently got to them

But if this detail is confirmed I can't imagine how pissed off the cities are about to be

Yeah, I feel like they're going to go martial law in October no matter what, but in the meantime violence from protesters is just going to a) fracture the anti fascist coalition b) provoke retaliation from ICE that will hit bystanders
