Apparently the only option is grow up > get soulless job working for big corporate entity which produces no value for anyone except shareholders

I assume big corp makes widgets that are then immediately discarded

don't bother learning html and css, just use claude code and it'll get you a nice basic website, unless you're looking to code as a hobby then go for your life

Eyekaytee ,
@Eyekaytee@aussie.zone avatar

I know it won't be popular because people would rather downvote and claim AI is useless but it genuinely is amazing and claude is clearly the best by far

if you want to self host your own you can do that for example with /c/[email protected]

for me i donate to https://protectavolunteer.com/ who send the funds directly to soldiers, weapons to ukraine who have campaigns like https://weaponstoukraine.com/en/kampane/sos

SOS Kyiv – Emergency Fundraiser for Generators and Backup Batteries

and UFL Robin https://www.reddit.com/user/UFL_Robin/ who does weekly raffles like this one that just ended:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/1qjvk1q/about_7_hours_left_for_a_shot_at_three_packages/

they literally post videos and photos showing the goods being received like

https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/1qjxgmj/tempest_group_of_3ab_and_fluffy_boy_downie_thank/

this is about as close to the front line i can get without being there

irl i don’t have time to do charity work so before ukraine i would donate to a homeless shelter and climate change charities, I try to buy australian or european where I can, avoid american/chinese, and have solar panels/solar battery/ev and heat pump, i also export a big chunk of battery power every night during 5:30pm to 7:30pm to reduce demand when fossil fuels are being used the most, it takes about a ton per year of co2 off

tldr i don’t have time for charity work as im already pretty busy irl similar to you so i try to make up for it by having my donations go as far as possible and things i spend money on make the biggest impact

Eyekaytee ,
@Eyekaytee@aussie.zone avatar

it's a stupid metric tbh, the fuel is just what goes into (coal/gas) power plants, cars and planes to make them move, if you reduce the demand for those things naturally the demand for coal/gas/oil etc will go down

so UK regulators could absolutely help clean them up and make a massive difference.

They are :)

The government announced that the plan, published on Wednesday, will focus on funding solar panels, heat pumps and batteries for households across the UK via low-interest loans and grants.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckgj7me00p0o

All of these reduce demand for coal and gas, they also make having an EV more viable as cheaper power prices make running an EV even cheaper than it already is

Does Mastodon even have the verification feature?

Eyekaytee ,
@Eyekaytee@aussie.zone avatar

What's stopping ICE from verifying on Mastodon?

Eyekaytee ,
@Eyekaytee@aussie.zone avatar

Then what is the point of what the OP is saying? How is Mastodon any different? If anything it looks like it's worse because ICE just have a basic link to their website and it's done.

Micron addresses Crucial exit backlash: 'We are trying to help consumers around the world' — company warns that DRAM drought could last until at least 2028 ( finance.yahoo.com )

Moore was asked if memory suppliers were inclined towards catering to the AI sector, "leaving consumers behind" as a result. "Well, first I would want to try to help everybody understand that the perception may not be exactly correct, at least from our point of view," Moore said. He stated that while he would "never want to tell...

Eyekaytee ,
@Eyekaytee@aussie.zone avatar

Stock price wise the company is clearly worth more because it's selling more and making massive amounts of money and by massive I mean they're printing money right now

The other part is that the 3 major players SK Hynix, Samsung and Micron have basically said they don't want to oversupply the market and when the AI bubble pops have memory prices go through the floor again, so they are treating this as if it's a bubble and in a few years time the demand will subside, so they are not blowing up all their capital to expand as quickly as possible

"This follows reports earlier this month that the price for DRAM sticks of memory for desktop computers had increased by over 170% year on year. Mostly driven by the high demand for building new AI-focused data centers, memory makers aren't planning to increase production either, on the off chance the demand dries up."

https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/samsung-raises-memory-chip-prices-by-up-to-60-percent-since-september-according-to-reports-ai-data-center-build-out-strangles-supply

I saw Samsung may already be in the process of building a new fab but i cbf looking up further, basically looks like higher memory prices, for longer, with no oversupply glut with cheap prices once the bubble pops like in the past :(

Yeah there was, they have burn over protection in case they get overrun by fire, this one from South Australia for example has a few features:

Key features standard across all response vehicles:

  • Cabin deluge systems for cabin glass protection.
  • In-cabin breathing systems for crew oxygen supply for burn over events.
  • Cabin crew protection (window curtains, where required) as radiant heat shields.
  • In-cabin pump control to enable operation of Cabin Deluge from the cab.
  • Under-cabin heat shields to reduce radiant heat penetration of cabin structures.
  • Tyre spray systems to reduce radiant heat.
  • Updated visibility markers to new safety standards to improve fleet visibility on fire grounds and when responding.

firstly please calm down, there’s no need to be upset

the direction to not outrun a bush fire is for civilians, not people who put themselves in the line of fire as part of their job

you’re watching a video of a fire truck being by overwhelmed by a bushfire without the fire suppression systems they would be dead

I'm so confused the source is: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/ranked-oceanias-most-populated-cities/

But Published 2 days ago on January 8, 2026

What?

This infographic ranks Oceania’s 30 most populated cities in 2025 using data from the UN World Population Prospects 2025.

I cannot figure out how to get the numbers after 2 minutes of trying but we don't need the UN we have the ABS:

The 'quiet part out loud' isn't being used how it should be

Microsoft appears to genuinely believe that AI features are what customers want even if they don't directly ask for it, nobody asked for Google's AI feature but it's hugely popular, people freakin love it (except here on Lemmy of course where it's the devil), Google see that users are staying on their site longer and not clicking through to sites as much which is a win for them and a win for users

A real quiet part out loud would be 'Microsoft knows its users don't like its AI features but don't care because Windows isn't a money maker for them compared to Microsoft Copilot 365'

Eyekaytee ,
@Eyekaytee@aussie.zone avatar

seems like so far things are going well, businesses spend more on ads on google 🙃

Google, for now, is still laughing its way to the bank. The search giant is putting advertisers' ads within or directly above and below AI Overviews themselves. As Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in an interview last year, "If you put content and links within AI Overviews, they get higher clickthrough rates than if you put it outside of AI Overviews." Organic links are pushed down.

Even in 2024, market research company SparkToro's study of searchers found "almost 30 percent of all clicks go to platforms Google owns." For every 1,000 Google searches in the United States, 360 clicks go to a non-Google-owned, non-Google-ad-paying property. With the rise of AI Overview, Google's share can only have grown, while everyone else's has shrunk.

https://www.theregister.com/2025/07/29/opinion_column_google_ai_ads/

I believe maps and youtube were money losers for google for a very long time but the goal was to keep people within the google ecosystem where they can extract money from users in other ways
