Lawsuit Alleges That WhatsApp Has No End-to-End Encryption ( it.slashdot.org )

As evidence, the lawsuit cites unnamed "courageous whistleblowers" who allege that WhatsApp and Meta employees can request to view a user's messages through a simple process, thus bypassing the app's end-to-end encryption. "A worker need only send a 'task' (i.e., request via Meta's internal system) to a Meta engineer with an...

I don't think it can be called End to End Encryption if it is actually End to End and The guy in the Middle.

Every technical definition of End to End Encryption states only the Sender and Recipient have keys to decrypt the message.

Anything else is using "End to End Encryption" purely as a marketing term like "Lite" or "Pure".

Candice_the_elephant ,
@Candice_the_elephant@lemmy.world avatar

They used Signal's code for the encryption and decryption, they just also took a copy of everyone's cryptographic keys with their own code.

They only lied by omission.

Candice_the_elephant ,
@Candice_the_elephant@lemmy.world avatar

Yep, If they can access messages that are deleted from your device, then they have the keys.

Candice_the_elephant ,
@Candice_the_elephant@lemmy.world avatar

What's to stop an evil company uploading the keys as soon as you enter them in the App? It certainly wouldn't stop Meta.

Candice_the_elephant ,
@Candice_the_elephant@lemmy.world avatar

It only uses some of signal's code. Not necessarily the OOTB key storage and security.

Candice_the_elephant ,
@Candice_the_elephant@lemmy.world avatar

Or they can make a copy of the encryption keys on creation. Using the code is very different than using the code unedited, or using all the code.

I always had a lopsided body, my legs were big from cycling for years but my top half was always small & skinny. I decided to do something about it. 24 months later my body is proportional, I'm visibly muscular and feel sexy for the first time in decades. It's amazing.

At 50 I thought I couldn't put on much muscle, but I was wrong. I will never be huge, but that was never the goal.

I was 27. Had an instructor and a friend who let me drive him around a bunch for practice. My mum got hers at 30. Just get it when you can afford it or you want/need it. There's no rush.

A finger snap is incredibly fast, occurring in just 7 milliseconds, making it the fastest rotational acceleration in the human body, with peak speeds reaching 7,800 degrees per second—about three times faster than a professional baseball pitcher's arm—thanks to the perfect balance of skin friction and compression.

Not saying you're wrong, just pointing out this is interesting.

A baseball pitcher snapping his fingers is where it's at.

That was an achievement.

Autofocusing Smart Glasses With Eye Tracking Tech Could Make Bifocals Obsolete ( hothardware.com )

Exciting news for those enough who are 40+ and spend too much time in front of a computer screen: a Finnish startup called IXI is promising to end the era of clunky bifocals and the 'head-tilt' struggle of progressive lenses, replacing them with a pair of glasses that focus as naturally as the human eye using a combination of...

I'm be ready to try it. Having to take my readers off to walk around, and put them on to glance at my phone is a real drag. I also need another pair for using my PC as the screen is further away. It's a real hassle, so I'd pay really good money to have a good looking pair that auto-adjusts for these uses.

If it's a subscription model though, it can eat a bag of dicks.

The spelling & grammar mistakes are normally on purpose to weed out the educated that will waste time but not fall for the final step. This is much cleverer.

Independent state run media can be harsher on governments than corporate controlled media. Editorial independence is key. The ABC in Australia was the harshest critic of government in the media space until they got hobbled by the LNP government sacking and stacking the board with ex-politicians and corporate media suckups.

Yes, I'm only worried about it being painful and my partner having to raise my son alone until she finds someone else. I'm much more worried about losing mobility and or faculties as I age, it can be devastating.

Why be afraid of my energy returning to the universe from whence it came?

It’s entirely insincere to pretend more arms to Ukraine will result in less bloodshed.

It's neutral, without the money more Ukranians will die, with the money more Russians will. We don't know how or when the war will end so it's impossible to know whether the total deaths will be greater or smaller with a better funded Ukraine.

It's just a matter of taking sides. And I know what side I'm on.

@Candice_the_elephant@lemmy.world avatar

It depends.

If you're old and wealthy, doing it for the education, not for the income, then it's never too late.
If you're not, then spreadsheet it. Calculate expected working life and expected income for current career trajectory, and compare with expected working life after education and expected income for new career minus full cost of further education including lost income while studying.

Or if your current works options suck, pursue further education so you can do something that doesn't suck as long as it won't leave you much worse off by retirement.

The calculations will be different for every person.

Remember any calculations and expectations will change over time, especially with the advent of AI. So do the calculations, then follow your heart. There's no guarantees.

What substances are the local addicts using that make them always bending over at the waist?

I know this question is odd, but unfortunately we have a lot of unhoused addicted people in my city. I often see them sitting on a bench bent at the waist in half like a rag doll, or standing somewhere half bent over, like stooped over nodding out I guess? I don't really know anything about substance use, but it's such a strange...

It so they can profile you and adjust their pricing depending on how wealthy you are and if you really need the product. Dynamic pricing is coming and it's going to be brutal. They're not collecting these enormous datasets on every household for marketing only.
