News@lemmy.world•The Economist: Don't go after the rich to fix broken budgets.
2·7 hours agoNo
I’ve kept inflation out to keep things simple. Yeah, the exact number will be different and depending on many factors, but the basic idea and the basic number are there.
For housing, I’d add one extra rule where for profit companies are not allowed to own houses for renting purposes.
If nobody can own more than a million, a couple with kids could own up to two million. Since people can’t afford to own multiple houses, and companies won’t be able to either, housing prices can go down to “what it cost to build plus a little extra” instead of “whatever some billionaire company can afford just to push the prices up”

1·7 hours agoYeah, no.
Not a fan.
I’d rather see us put in wealth caps, nobody can have a net worth of over a million, anything over that goes to taxes
With that people all get similarly rich, income can normalize world wide and with that, nobody will have absolute power anymore. With that, issues like immigration become much much smaller and influence of extremist groups goes down with it

News@lemmy.world•The Economist: Don't go after the rich to fix broken budgets.
1·7 hours agoI fully understand what a retirement cost NOW in the current system.
I’m basically saying “keep the system, cap wealth at 1 million” and with that, governments will have so much income that anyone can retire normally and have a normal pension.
You talking about retiring being expensive completely misses the point where it shouldn’t have any cost to begin with. Nobody should have to save up for retiring as a government can so that for everyone hands down if not all the wealth was locked away with a few extremely rich.
If nobody could own more than a million worth, and the rest going to taxes 100%, governments would have more than enough to feed, clothe house, etc. anyone in retirement

1·7 hours agoI said million, not billion
Nobody NEEDS a million (less even a billion). Normal houses don’t cost anywhere remotely need a million to build these days. Everyone can live a great life without ever being worth more than a million dollars
Either way, the million dollar is just an arbitrary point, it depends on where you live, etc, and more likely it should be a limit pushed by the average income, but I think it’s a good number to start with, a good number to promote

Why? It does what it needs to do without whining, so it does exactly what it needs to do. No renaming needed

1·7 hours agoGenerally speaking, crime goes down in authoritarian regimes because they’ll basically lock up everyone, including the criminals.
I never said they got better at reducing crime, the lower crime rates are more a “happy extra” so to speak
And I’ve never asked it to do anything, I always tell it to do what it needs to do and it does it exactly as asked

Not that it matters that much, he strangled a child, but now he strangled not a young woman, he strangled a little girl
If I were the father of this girl… Well let’s not go there, I think the point is obvious
This fucker for me is at the exact same level as a pedophile. Strangling somebody like that can, amongst things, cause life long injuries or even death. Throw him in a burning fire or something, I don’t care.

News@lemmy.world•Trump Says Top General Predicts Easy Victory Over Iran; He Says Otherwise in Private
34·9 hours agoThe US always invades and easily wins, it has done so since WWII
At also only really invaded small countries with small or badly trained and maintained armies
Iran has a considerable army and probably would be around the biggest for it ever fought against. Add to that that trump just had his Stalin army generals purge, so I’m wondering how combat ready it’s armed forces even are.
I’m not trying to underestimate the power of the US Military, I’m saying that the Cheetos is probably overestimating what it can do right now and that sounds like a great recipe for disaster

No
I’m saying that they’re so stupid that they’ll never get any real success. They will fuck themselves up before we can
