Realllllly disturbing and profound
I want to begin by acknowledging the departure from key (systemic) plot points, primarily as Heathcliff’s casting is concerned. The director of this piece took liberties with areas that, if you’ve read Emily Brontë’s novel, stray too far from the story’s intent to be taken seriously in cinematic form. THAT SAID, this movie was objectively well done. Its tactile storytelling and erotic imagery made this film captivating from open to close, tragic as it was. Highly recommend. I tip my hat to miss Charli xcx for a stellar soundtrack and to all involved in the campy costumery and set design!
To digest life from a completely honest perspective is virtually myth, a fact I’d argue was expertly executed by Lanthimos in Poor Things. From what little I know about him, I understand that he often satirizes life via his directing style, and I see much of that in this film.
I’ve heard rumblings surrounding the feminist ideology and its role in this film as well, which, to me, feels menial in comparison to the regular motif of curiosity/open-mindedness layered throughout…
Hilariously real. Loved the harsh visuals and and typography interspersed, and the overarching mockery of a pop star’s inner world! Awesome!!!!
