An incredibly beautiful movie which centres massively on the pressure of adolescence boys and how complex they can be. 

Miyazaki chose to go the route of more adult themes instead of the usual child friendly genre. A very thought provoking movie with layer after layer with an open ending for viewers to interpret how they wish.

These sort of movies are my favourite. I can see where James Cameron got his influence for Avatar.

Avatar & Pocahontas are two of my favourite movies and this movie falls on the same principles. A clash between cultures and civilisations and deciding whether we should just leave things be or forever keep evolving at the cost of the other species on this planet and the habitats that they thrive on.

This just stressed me out. I was impressed with how different sounds and volume were the biggest reason for the eerie anxious moments. The camera work was brilliant as well, the way it slowly moved around and would zoom in and out at completely random moments to keep you on edge. 

The concept was cool and parts did work really well but a lot of it felt flat and repetitive. 

I also hated every single character.

If someone was to ask me what mid means I’d show them this movie.

It just doesn’t do enough of anything to make it great at any genre. Not much crime happens and we don’t really see how the main character (Mike/James) becomes so good at what he does. Chris Hemsworth does do the role fairly well and looks good while doing it.  

His backstory is lame and given about 90 seconds of screen time. His love interest is…
