This was the perfect $6 movie night romp with my bff. Reminds me of how movies used to be big, fun and narratively tight. I truly never knew what was coming next. I jumped and laughed. Rachel McAdams appreciation hour. Her comedy is top tier. Getting knuckle tats that say strategy and planning.

Watched immediately after Emerald Fennell’s adaptation. No one broods quite like Laurence Olivier. What I enjoyed in this version is Isabella is a fully formed human instead of comic relief like in the latest. She is not an object to be pitied but a woman fighting for her own space in this haunted house.

This felt more like a neo-noir than a black comedy. And I love a film noir. Set in modern Paris, Jodie Foster is an uptight psychiatrist trying to "solve" the mystery of her patient's suicide, while her family tries to support her. Loved the supporting cast and dream-like sequences.

I loved Rogers and Hammerstein growing up, but hated Oklahoma!, so the Oklahoma(!!!!) barbs were right up my alley. Hawke gives a compelling character study and the production cleverly makes him appear smaller and more shrunken as the film progresses, as though he is literally being erased from Broadway history and Rogers' own legacy. As a one-act film, I could've done with less of the Margaret Qualley and E.B. White bits, but I still enjoyed learning about the man Lorenz Hart.
