Marty Supreme
★★★★½ Watched

I loved MARTY SUPREME. A ride to be at the top, or simply one to reverse the dynamics of power? I was quite won over by the broke, unpredictable, determined, somewhat acerbic Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Mauser. There’s no actor like him, and he keeps proving it, delivering an even better performance every time. Best editing & soundtrack combo I’ve seen this year. Match point?

Sound of Falling
★★★★★ Rewatched

Arguably 2025’s best film, and among the very best of the last ten years. A singular and draining sensory experience. SOUND OF FALLING is a haunted film: haunted by memories, by generational trauma, by “phantom pains,” by death itself… As far as I know, it’s the only film that tackles the “appel du vide” / the intrusive thoughts. Mascha Schilinski has such a unique way of directing children. I could talk about this film for hours and hours.

“I give you my life, Judith.
I'll be brave.
I'll be brave, Father.”

Heartbreaking. Expressing your feelings through art is so pure.

I'm Still Here

I’M STILL HERE is devastating. It left me emotionally drained and exhausted, overwhelmed by its dramatic swing and the almost imperceptible glimmer of hope. Fernanda Torres gives a heartbreaking, raw, and complex performance—undoubtedly the best lead performance of 2024.

Reflection in a Dead Diamond

A real challenge is counting the number of ideas packed into REFLECTION IN A DEAD DIAMOND—a love letter to the 70s spy genre. Still, the result is quite a mess, hard to follow due to its pace, and left me feeling disconnected from beginning to end. The influence of the Giallo genre is noteworthy.
