Memes@lemmy.ml•Time to militarize and rule by nuclear terror
7·24 days agoWhenever i encounter the “we cant revolt, theyll shoot us” argument from americans i always think to myself “so youd rather they shoot someone else in a different country then? Right”
Its clear subconsciously at least they think theyre superior and value their own lives above other nation’s peoples.
So is not voting AND doing nothing else…
- From a different device, start changing all logins/passwords
- Move your 2 factor authenticator to a different device for now, while changing passwords (set it up on the uncompromised device)
- Write everything new down in a notebook temporarily
- Once everything is changed and the password manager no longer contains valid passwords, factory reset the phone if you cant get a new one.
- Re-add everything from the notebook to the (assumed) clean device, and destroy the pages of the notebook that you wrote sensitive stuff on
- Re-move authenticator to factory reset phone after a while
Assuming you got compromised by downloading something, or opening a phishing email or something like that, a factory reset should be enough to clear everything malicious. Im assuming this isnt a targetted attack against you specifically. If it is, the attack may be more complicated and go deeper than a factory reset could clear. Im not a phone guy though, so I dont know much about how that would work, I just believe it is likely to be possible.

Programming@programming.dev•About “fauxpen source”, FUTO, fascists and capitalism
3·29 days agoMy point was basically to try to make you look at it from a different perspective. Sure 1 euro is better than 0, but thats not the point I was trying to make.
That looks at it from the perspective of the person in need of that 1 euro, or however much money. Im asking you to look at it from the perspective of the one giving the money. Now ask yourself why they would give just 1, if they can give 5, or 10, or give 1 consistently every month, assuming theyre rich-rich compared to the homeless guy.
The reason seems to be that the person giving the money doesnt care about helping in any way, they just want to do the minimum so that they can claim they help abd support the homeless.
Context and intent matters when discussing things like this, I think. If the intent is self serving, we shouldnt be treating FUTO as a beacon of OSS support. What we should be doing is acknowledging that they did give a small one time donation to various projects, but also recognising that it was for self-serving reasons. I’m sure theres individuals who have given more than 1000 in single payments to these projects, or less but more consistently (monthly, every 6 months, every year, etc). What makes FUTO more of a supporter than those individuals?
Anyway, I hope I explained my thinking well enough :)
Edit: I gave you the upvote even though I dont entirely agree with the way you see this matter, simply because I saw you got downvoted probably by someone else who disagrees with your opinion. However, upvotes/downvotes should be used to rate quality of discussion, not agreement/disagreement with the content.
Wouldnt a true anarchist explicitly NOT do nothing? Theyd actively (keyword: actively) do what they could to resist, no?
I agree, but only one of those 2 countries has proclaimed (in law if im not mistaken, but i may be wrong) that they would intervene militarily to prevent one of their own from being tried by the ICC, regardless of the actual crimes they’ve committed. And im talking about sending special forces to extract said alleged criminal against humanity, from another sovereign nation, abiding by its own laws.
Guess which of the 2 I’m talking about? Russia is by no means the good guy, but its not a binary issue, as most people on the internet seem to react when these 2 countries are mentioned in the same sentence. Russia being ‘bad’ doesn’t automatically make the US ‘good’ and vice versa.
Sure, who’s worse shifts back and forth over the years, but to my eyes, currently, the US is worse, and its been that way for a long time. Way before trump. Anyone who thinks this all started when trump took office, is a bit deluded.
But you’re 100% right, send both of them to the ICC, in an ideal world.

Programming@programming.dev•About “fauxpen source”, FUTO, fascists and capitalism
7·30 days agoWould you consider it a good deed if a rich person gave a homeless person 1 euro while not around other people, and then went around the city proclaiming they support homeless people and have been funding them? In my opinion thats not a good deed.

12·1 month agoWow, I never knew about all this. Its quite shocking since in my limited knowledge of FUTO I was under the impression that they support Open Source and are generally good.

25·1 month agoThis seems like a good thing. As they state, instead of just using OSS they’ll contribute back to existing projects and likely release some of their own stuff.
Hopefully they stick to it

Buy European@feddit.uk•Are there any headphones produced in Europe/EU?English
1·1 month agoIm not too sure about that, personally. Tbh i got them for free in a promotion when i bought my FP5 phone, and while I have used them, its not been much simply because at home on my PC ive got my regular headset, or if i want to do stuff like clean or cook I just switch to the external speakers, and at work, again, headset.
Pretty much all use cases for me involve my phone being in my pocket or hand (e.g. out in public) and in that case they’ve been really good to my experience. Granted I’m no audio guru so definitely check out reviews from those who are relating to that aspect if you (the reader) plan to get a set, I can’t complain honestly.

1·1 month agoI completely understand that you are trying to be supportive, and if the news from Venezuela didn’t come out today I would not have replied, but it did, so back here I am. The problem is that the time for you to resist by buying EU goods, and spreading awareness about the issues in your country has long since passed – And the rest of the world is paying for it. First Venezuelans will die, then possibly Cubans, and who knows, if no one stops the US war machine in the first two cases, why not also go for Greenland? (I’m slightly exaggerating here to make a point)
You can (I hope) see how all the support from people from the USA sounds like empty words. How about you use your 2nd amendment right that we’ve been hearing about for decades, for the purpose it was supposedly put in place for? Maybe its because you (or the people who like guns, I realise there’s not a lot of crossover between left-leaning people and people who defended gun ownership, but regardless there’s nothing stopping the people on the left from acquiring them from this point onwards) don’t actually want guns to defend from a tyrannical government, but instead just find them fun to own and shoot.
Words are empty, and peaceful protest only works if your oppressor has a conscience, which its clear the USA doesn’t have. The world is paying in blood for the fear of the average US citizen to deal with their own mess, and that tends to lead to the world not liking Americans (from the USA) very much, regardless of what said American’s political leanings are.
Thanks for your words of support. Be sure to let the those who have already died from your bombs, and those who are yet to die, know that you support them also.

DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Yet another email advice thread
1·1 month agoI might have used mailcow on a vps I had for a short time for a project I was hosting on it. Not sure though, I can’t remember. I’d much rather go with something simple that I don’t need to micromanage, or that I don’t need to worry that I’ve misconfigured hence won’t be receiving mail, so when the time comes I’ll probably be looking for solutions like the docker mailserver I linked to above, or similar.

1·1 month agoYeap exactly, I just replied to your other comment with basically this :D
I’d rather have something simple that works for now, and eventually when I am able to self-host my own email, I can look into and spend the effort securing everything.
