Nah. Why? We gifted away our (insert top-model of a german brand here) because this data-nightmare was unbearable. Nothing worked without supplying ALL data, everything cost extra, despite already physically being there. And also every few months something new broke. Was a great car, loved it. In theory though.

We looked hard and long for a car without all this digital nonsense which was NOT also an oldtimer already. And now we have a weird tiny compact-car for the 3rd year with not the slightest issue and 100% privacy. Now people think we became broke lol :-) Sure, I miss some tech-features like integration into our smart-home and such. I really do. But it’s just not worth it.

Long story short: You can still buy NEW cars that don’t fuck your privacy raw. They just don’t have any great features…

No arguments here. I just have to think of my last broken tail-light. 10yrs ago? 10 bucks. Tops. For a quality bulb. plus some bucks for the mechanic. This one? I don’t even dare to write this number down for the replacement of the whole fucking LED-system. Yeah sure, leasing is the wanted end-game here. We shall not own, we shall rent. EVERYTHING. If they’d find a way to rent us water and food, they’d do.

But yes, I do weep for the poorer people who still NEED a car in the future. When the last of the “good old” mostly-mechanical-cars is done for good, an era ends. From the boomers, who had two new cars on the salary of one working dude, to the GenZ who can work 3 jobs to pay off their 500.000km-1990-car. Or just lease one that’s beyond their paygrade, because it’s sooooo tempting. And you don’t want to look poor hm? Nooooo.

We managed to pick one that also came out #1 in reliability-tests. And durability. Lucky us. Guess the next one will be another challenge…

Maybe in our next life’s. I’m too old to maybe see this coming. Or too bitter. Or both.
