Nice read. No matter how much lightweight software you use, the hardware expectations of the modern web seem to keep increasing.

I read the article and was disappointed not to see metrics on just how rare our configuration is. It looks like they basically said “there are 4 layouts, ours is least common”

Jellyfin: The Free Software Media System@lemmy.ml•Does anyone have recent experience migrating from Plex to Jellyfin?English
2·3 years agoThis is the way (dual-wielding). I ran them side by side for a while on the same media, but shutdown my plex instance after a couple of months. I got in the habit of using Infuse for my AppleTV playback, and haven’t bothered to check back in on the official client much. I’m sure there are lots of deltas out there, but for my home use case the transition was simple.

3·3 years agoI know it’s not the same (some would argue worse), but I ran manjaro for a long time and just didn’t have these sorts of issues. Maybe I didn’t update enough, or I updated too frequently, or ?

Technology•1% rule: 1% of users actively create new content, while the other 99% only lurk.English
52·3 years agoI would be really curious if this was the case prior to the advent of smartphones. Was the ratio the same on early USENET or BBS? It’s so much easier to lurk than participate from a smartphone keyboard.

If it works, is safe, and is maintainable, there’s no shame in it. My unraid box has some unorthodox drive mounting too.
