Thanks! I’m embarrassingly late on posting the playlist from 2025. I’ll get that posted this weekend!
I’m another person who uses VR mostly for VRChat. I hang with friends, co-host a weekly movie night, and run/maintain The Great Pug. I host large parties for Halloween and St. Patrick’s Day. — If any lemmings would like to join the next event, or the Discord server, hit me up on Discord.
There’s a thing common to a lot of VRChat users in how they only play VRChat. It’s what VR is.
I have the original Beyond, and stick to PCVR. It’s where all the cool club spaces are too.
I also have a Vision Pro. And I use that mainly for watching movies and shows, and socializing with a close friend.
Right now, I’m looking forward to the day where VR feels less unfinished and janky. It surprises me just how Janky VR still is. And the jank is still present for a wide variety of reasons.

Technology•Smoking avatars and online games: how big tobacco targets young people in the metaverseEnglish
4·7 months agoYeah it sucks. Meta shit all over the term. And then every other company jumped on board claiming their stuff is a metaverse too. Even Microsoft claimed Teams was a metaverse.

11·7 months agoThis is because they include stuff like Roblox in the definition of Metaverse. I personally hate that.
If we kept it to SocialVR titles, the demographics would shift to something more balanced, afaik. VRC bans people under 13 when they are discovered/reported.

21·7 months agoThats the thing. Adults talk shit about it. But it’s mostly the younger generations that are active in VR.
You have your demographics backwards.

27·7 months agolol what? I’ve been using VRChat for almost 10 years and I’ve seen maybe 4-5 people with avatars that smoke.
I’ve never touched Roblox tho… I’m a bit offended that it’s considered a Metaverse.
That title is a bit misleading. Unfortunate.
The whole avatar is sold. Not what it’s wearing. But I guess you could call the whole body fashion too.
Direct link to the announcement.
VRChat is an option. Takes effort to make your way to the cool people tho.
I have a 5 gallon bucket 3/4 full with just USB cables of all types.
It sucks that religion is so fucked up broadly. We should be able to feel this way about all persons in similar positions as her.

Voyager•Voyager feels claustrophobic compared to Eternity, is there a theme that fixes this?English
6·1 year agoI think they might just have very different design philosophies, and there isn’t a way to make it look like that.
Because you can use it to show confusion. 😄
My favorite terrible emoji design is the thinking face Microsoft originally used:

Virtual Reality•So, Are We Just Agreed That The Hardware Requirements Popup on HL: Alyx Is Just BS Now?English
2·1 year agoYeah, the error seems totally busted. Or it was a broad disclaimer posing as an error.
Also, I’m sure the overlay works fine for you. But to test what I was explaining properly, you need to overload your vram, and then open it.

Virtual Reality•So, Are We Just Agreed That The Hardware Requirements Popup on HL: Alyx Is Just BS Now?English
41·1 year agoI don’t think it was bullshit. When Alyx came out, SteamVR still had substantial issues managing VRAM at times. As a VRChat player, it was very obvious.
This warning may have been partially related to the SteamVR overlay failing when VRAM is full, when it failed the overlay wouldn’t work. And then there were massive perf issues when returning to the app. All centered around managing VRAM.
To this day the overlay will fail to come up if VRAM is maxed out or over burdened. But it seems to recover better. So this issue has improved a lot since Alyx came out. At least in my experience.
Maybe I’m way off. But to sum things up, I don’t think it was bullshit. It was just very cautious and upfront about possible issues.
It is strange that you are still seeing the message on your new config tho. Might just be a bug. — Maybe it’s reading your integrated graphics VRAM in error? Are you using Link with a Quest? Maybe that config causes it to read things wrong?

Whoa, this thread has the most comments I’ve ever seen on Lemmy, I think.
