8·2 days agoSame for us, deflect. If you’re looking for a good Canadian provider https://easydns.com/ is solid. We do our domain registration through https://www.canspace.ca/ and I think they also offer some DNS.

24·2 days ago5M seems really high, we’re at 7.8M but I’ve become pretty aggressive about blocking bots / scrapers from China

We’re a registered non-profit in Canada though - https://deflect.ca/non-profits/

5·2 days agoOn the other hand with cgnat deployments being common on mobile devices and lower end isps, they would end up underreporting on those users.
Overall it does seem tricky. Billing per legit request or mbit would make more sense to me.

10·2 days agoNot that I know of, and I don’t think that’s the direction they’re going with it.
I don’t use summit, but why do you change instance? You can reply to a message using any instance that’s federated with it, you don’t need to use the same instance as the post. You only need one lemmy account, not one on each instance.

3·3 days agoOften it’s distributed databases like Google spanner, amazon aurora, cockroach db, etc. Google has a public whitepaper on spanner you can read.

I get the complaint, but if you don’t accept any cookies then they can’t remember that you refuse to accept cookies. It’s a catch-22
Find the fake ending 30 mins before the end and watch from there. The rest you can skip without feeling guilty.
For my problem, pulling one stick resolved 95% of the stability issues even though I knew the ram was good
I’ll check it later tonight and let you know.

I’m caching less to keep the load off piefed, and more to keep the load off our network connection and improve performance for users. Unfortunately nginx won’t help with that. Also though I know it’s trivial to get our origin IP if you’re determined, it helps avoid the casual ddos attacks.
