Have you read any Neal Stephenson? Some of the things I like about his books overlap with Andy and The Martian.
Maybe start with Snow Crash. Feeling bold? Start with Cryptonomicon, which is my favorite

Snow crash was great but not sure it meets the alone in space requirement. Butjif it does then reamde was good too.
